Posts: 11661 (01/12/09 08:19 PM) Forum Site Moderator Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts Report Post	Tags : None I picked this up last Thursday on a trade: SKS-M It was filthy inside and some moron decided to scratch their initials on the left side of the stock and the handguard too, so I am working on the stock a little bit after discussing the pros and cons of refinishing the wood v/s collector value. No need for aftermarket mags and hoping they'll fit and function, this one was designed from the factory to work with AK mags!

(regular Chinese SKS's were $89 at that time) It's always worked flawlessly. After getting it apart, I am starting to believe the former owner shot this thing for about 17 years and never disassembled the thing for a cleaning and then took it in for trade goods on another rifle when it started to malfunction from being crudded over. The piston was seized in the tube, the firing pin was either protruding, or in the bolt head and would not move in either direction on it's own when first brought home last week. The parts washing container had brand new Naptha in it. Upon contact with the piston, the naptha turned BLACK. Everything moves freely now and is almost ready for a shooting session, as soon as I pick the powder flecks out of the stock.... Seriously, I stripped the stock to get rid of the initials some goober scratched in it and the handguard. Almost ready now!!

I missed out on one a couple years back for $150. I have one of the Navy Arms "cowboy companions"(the bayo,+ lug removed and the groove filled) and a complete Para w/ the spike bayo. I like them alot. I put the Williams apature leaf site on the cowboy. It gives a good site picture but it has some play. I thought about bedding the rear site in black RTV to stop the side play.

It says they make one for the AK mag models. The pistol grip would make it real one hand friendly.

The crossbolt holes are too high in the wood, etc...so it was no loss to lop off 2+ inches from the foreend and drop this into that wood to see if it would work. I'm going to pick up a standard no-number Chinese stock and work it to fit this action so it'll have a more military look to it than the stock it came with. That way there'll be two stocks for it to cross-dress in.
