Sounds like the bolt shroud is not screwed into the bolt body all the way. This'll be fiddly but see if you can pull the cocking piece further back (when
the bolt is in the rifle and cocked) and then swing the safety to 12 o'clock - you'll probably need three hands to do this easily.
When you've done this take the bolt out of the rifle and try and screw the shround further onto the bolt - remember to press the shroud lock thingy on the side to allow it to rotate. (also remember that the safety can't be operated once the bolt is uncocked) |

when you screw the bolt shroud in it makes a click to let me know it's in all the way-this is the only mauser i've have with a problem i just can't
understand -why does the cocking pc stop me from setting the safety?

Sometimes they click too early and there is one more turn left on the thread of the shroud - my Israeli Mauser is like this too. When it clicks, press the
retaining pin and screw the shroud in further.
Figures 6 and 7 in the link show the retaining pin being depressed (although it is in the disassembly part of the instruction - just turn the shroud the other way ie clockwise) http://www.surplusrifle.c...boltdisassembly/index.asp |

the bolt shroud has a shoulder that does not let me go any further

Okay, that's a sure sign it's screwed in as far as it will go.
Next idea - Sometimes the camming surface on the safety gets worn or damaged and can't enter the matching slot on the cocking piece but you've said that you've tried a different saftey and that didn't work either. Maybe it is an incorrect bolt? (too short? too long? - so that the saftey cam doesn't align with the slot in the cocking piece. If the sear [probably the wrong term] was in the wrong spot this would have the same effect). Maybe I misunderstood your first posts, but I thought that initially the safety was actually working? If you could post some photos that would help too. [As you can tell, I'm no guru, maybe you could add a post to the repairs & adjustments forum with a link to here?]

the incorrect bolt -at this point would be the only thing not replaced- got a new safety and cocking pc.(even tried the 1903 long cocking pc.) from numrich
arms-bought a TURK sear /trigger- after i pull the trigger and recock the bolt the safety does not reset-the cocking pc is not back far enough -the firing pin
is in the correct position for the next round to fire.
your input is highly appreciated-posting pics is not my cup of tea however when one of my sons drops by i'll get that done.thanks! |

it has to be the safety-i'll just keep swapping out safety /shrouds/cocking pieces till it works.
mauserand9mm thanks for your help. |

I'm compelled to post this because the exact same thing just happened to one of my two 1938 Turks. I store the bolts, separate from the rifle, in the
fired position. Thinking that I may have damaged something, I completely disassemble the bolt apart and scrutinized it for any obvious burrs or high, shiny
spots. None found. Reassembled and put the bolt into the second Turk. The safety did work but only after a little coaxing. After that first coaxing, it worked
fine. Put the bolt from rifle #2 in rifle #1 and it works fine. This is about as far as I'm going without interchanging parts, filing, etc...for now.
Sorry, I don't have the solution to your problem, however, it's created a little dilemna for me. This is one of the most , if not the most accurate
milsurps that I have and changing the bolt might affect its' accuracy. We'll find out when I do a range test. If accuracy is affected, then it will
need more evaluating. If not, all is well. Good luck and I'll definitely be following this topic. Sorry again for not being able to help. Regards.

PROBLEM SOLVED!!!!!!!!!!! changed the firing pin, fireing pin spring and cock piece (SEVERAL), the firng pin was too long, i had to use a CZ one, the firing
pin spring was way to short and not to a model 98 and cock piece didnt work (B0UUGHT FROM NUMRICH ARMS.).. the bolt work sperfectly with the safety to left in
FIRE position, and smoothly rotates up and locks to the disable position to disassemble, and remove... however it still wont go to the right to lock the entire
bolt... this feature i could not get to work with any parts... anyway bolt works smoothly with fire position and straight up position that disables
firing....and thats all anyone needs anyway.......bolt works smooth with no grit... using the safety and otherwiswe ..this was accomplised by MAUSER
"GURU" CHARLIE ROMERO ( charlie romero ) MANY THANKS TO ALL - CHARLIE YOUR THE BEST
