Arizona Shooters!

One of my tasks as an officer in Arizona State Rifle & Pistol Association, is I run the annual Washington's Birthday Match. First fired in 1893, this year will be the 117th annual match. This is the largest High Power Rifle match in Arizona and the longest running annual rifle match in the country.

The match is a simplified version of an NRA or CMP 4-person team match. All fired at 200 yds with standing, sitting and prone stages, some rapid fire, some slow fire. The same course of fire as the National Matches every year. Generally it is a "Service Rifle" match, but we open it up to nearly any military-style rifle of any vintage from 1896 mausers and 1903 springfields to M1 Garands to the AR-15's used by all the top NRA/CMP shooters.

Full details can be found at: http://www.geocities.com/washbday/

The 2009 match will be held at Ben Avery Shooting Facility's High Power range on February 21 & 22, 2009. With a beginner's class on Saturday and the main match all day Sunday! Events include opening ceremonies, first half of the match, break for lunch (cooked by supporters of the junior rifle team) the 2nd half of the match, a shoot-off for the Master class shooters, awards ceremonies for all shooters and teams, and a raffle for a custom rebuilt M1 Garand Rifle!

I would like to invite folks on this forum to form a team and come out and SHOOT!

One of you all should take charge and recruit other shooters. You can download the match programs & entry forms at http://www.geocities.com/washbday/ and mail them in the next coupla weeks. This is a "team" match for 4-shooters per team, if you can't find enough, we'll squad the partial teams together. We have space for about 80 teams this year, so there should be plenty of room if you dig up enough shooters for several teams.

The best shooters in the state will be there, but you don't have to be experienced at all, this is a great match for beginners! There will be 200yd practices at PRGC 1-Feb and tentatively 7-Feb and Rio Salado on 8-Feb as well as the beginner's class & practice Saturday of match weekend at Avery.

Spectators and volunteers are welcome too!
