Has anyone ever received bayos and scabbards that were matching to the rifle? I really don't know if these were sorted and matched prior to export to foreign markets, but I assume that it has largely been a function of the importers to match (or lose) the matching serialed bayos. Has anyone received a rifle with matching serialed bayo and scabbard lately? Thanks- Pat

Back in the day, we had a survey running. People would post their rifles, and bayonet matching bayo scabbard or those items separate numbers hoping to find some one with matching other part.. After a long time and hundreds of numbers, we found a match. By the time the bayo showed that the matching rifle owner never responded to our contact. Is it true that the importers separate out the accessories, like bayos, frogs, etc.? It seems like the goods would be mostly kept together in a crate for import, if Russian-refurb Mosins are any indication... Pat

They were Century imports and I bought two of them. A friend of mine bought one and it at first appeared that the bayonet matched the rifle., but I can not honestly say whether that is true or not. If you looked real carefully at the serial number on the bayonet, you could (or at least I could) plainly see that two of the digits were overstamped , making the digit "3" look like an "8". Since some of these rifles were sold as "all matching, unissued", I can imagine someone altering the serial number on the bayonet to match the rifle. Not all importers and dealers are perfectly honest in regards to things like this, if it would greatly increase their profits when selling them. Curt

I also bought one in about 2001 or so, and it included the accessories. I sold it awhile ago and don't remember whether or not the bayo/scabbard numbers matched those of the rifle, which was all matching itself, and apparently unissued. I think at the time that Big 5 was selling all of these for the same price regardless of condition, so while I would agree with you about unscrupulous importers out there, I don't think that Big 5's source (no doubt Century) would have had a sliding scale of prices for such a large customer, rather than one type for one price. They did/do the same thing for K-31s and Mosins. Best, Pat
