60 Minutes crew at Richmond gun show |

Most folks avoided them like the plague given CBS's attitude towards guns. Phillip Van Cleef with the Virginia Citizens Defense League (I'm a member)
spent time with them and took them to the range. He's optimistic about the results. If I had to pick someone to talk to them he would've been the one.

I am also a VCDL member.
I have never encountered a better "gun rights" advocate than PVC. He mentioned in his email that CBS also interviewed Colonel Massengill, ex-superintendent of the Virginia State Police, and next week will be interviewing some of the families that lost people at VATech. Kim |

I wouldn't be too optimistic. I expect 60 Minutes to crank out yet another hit piece that supports their agenda. That's what they do.....and they have
been doing it for decades. Be prepared to see some creative editing of the gunshow footage and the interviews with articulate pro-2d Amendment spokesmen will
end up on the cutting room floor. Why in the heck would the gun show managment let these propagandists into the show in the first place?????

Yeah I was there and witnessed them make pains in the butt of themselves by getting in every-ones way and acting like they owned the place. Leslie Stahl is one
rough around the edges looking women and TV does good for her perhaps smoothing the edges of her a bit. I tried three different aisles to get around them and
up the one aisle they had almost completely blocked off with their entourage and finally I said screw it wading in with a couple of excuse me's followed by
a couple of others who wanted through the aisle too. The sound man gave me the dirtiest look and I just told him to get the hell out of the way. He kind of
looked like he wanted to say something and others just booted him away to the side along with the rest of them. I jumped one of the promoters of the show and
asked why the heck they were in there because we both know nothing good will come of it and frankly she had no answer at all that made sense to me. I know they
had not paid their way in and if I had my way they could have come in and left their cameras outside to my way of thinking. They later were taking shots of
guys talking and trading outside and the show security guys freaked out and came running over and said that was not allowed. We told them to bug off we were
just talking to old friends which was the truth at the time. I was taking two guns out and going to get another for someone inside to look at. They backed off
quickly which frankly surprised me because I thought of great here come the hired idiots on parade.
I got a definite feeling nothing but more liberal crap dealing about the "Gunshow Loophole" will arise from this so I frankly have no positive thoughts on them even letting them in there. Sometimes the no camera deal in the show is the best for all concerned because they just twist things the way they want the public to hear them. I know I wasn't alone in my thoughts as it could be heard all around their little group over and over again what the heck are they being allowed in here. Time will tell but I hold little hope for any good coming from it! Bill

This 60 Minutes gun show feature is being done for a reason. Leslie Stahl and her crew were not there because of intellectual curiosity, they were there for a
purpose. The purpose is to "prep the battlefield" prior to legislative action by the Obama Administration. When this 60 Minutes segment airs it will
be pure propaganda meant to sway public opinion to the side of the anti-gun forces. Then they will wait for a terrible event like the Columbine or Virginia
Tech shootings to politically exploit in order to ram new restrictions into law. Just watch and see.

I totally agree.....nothing good CAN come from intellectually corrupt people. PERIOD.

Anyone who thinks that is a "news" program is naive. They write a story following their network department corporate line and anything that
contradicts it is cut out of the final piece.
Happened to some friends of mine interviewed for a network news program on military aviation. They tried to explain the complexities, but it interferred with the simple "Good little airplanes vs Bad big airplanes" storyline the producers had already written. |

Nothing "good" will come from anything that 60-Minutes or CBS-News does.
Expecting them to be "different" this time, is like expecting a dog with rabies to get well, and be nice to everyone from now on.

I guess this thread is going to be the "who's who of who was there".
I was there too and avoided the 60 minute cameras. I couldn't see supporting a show that would twist the truth as they will. This gunshow was the absolute busiest gunshow I've ever been to in my life. The initial line was as long as the building, then looped way out into the parking lot. If there was a sign at the end of the line, it would have said, "1 hour wait from this point". ![]() |

Line was over a hundred people long over an hour before opening time. Crowd was about what has been seen at any gunshow since right before and after OB was
rammed into office by media and a slobbering love affair of the uneducated. It is just a sign of the times I am afraid and sales reflect that. Promoters are in
such high cotton right now they are scheduling against each other as close as 30 miles away. That not only hurts the dealers who have to choose but the paying
customers see less for the same amount as there are just so many sellers available. Dealers will remember who is changing dates and go to shows more
established on certain dates I am hoping? Bill

Well, now we've had the "incidents" that will highlight this upcoming 60 minutes episode!

I don't see how they were even allowed into the show! Around here simply bringing a still camera to a gun show is strictly verboten! About fifteen years
ago there was a local channel news crew at a gun show trying to get some news coverage. They were kept in the parking lot and not allowed to enter the
building. The crowd entering and exiting the building chasticed them to the point of finally shooting about 45 seconds of tape and leaving while they still had
their skins.

I'am glad Van Cleef was there instead of me. Those people from 60 minutes could'nt make a unbiased story if their life depended on it ! Part of the
leftest/ elite, and they are not about to change. They were there, not to do us any good,I'am sure.

Press Coverage of Firearms and the 2nd Amendment | ||
|
A bit off topic, and for that I apologize............
Pretty much every evening Lou Dobbs has a segment about 'the erosion of our 2nd Amendment rights'. That's the quote from the show, not me. And the show is on CNN. All of the segments I have seen are VERY supportive of the rights of firearm owners. Anyway, I thought it interesting to see such on a show of a known, reputable (in my mind) commentator. |

The camel's nose got under the tent. A refusal to 60 Minutes to record would clearly have been in order, even if the "show" made the worst of the
refusal it would not have film footage it could/will "cut and paste" to suit its agenda. "Avoid the very appearance of evil".

Like everyone here, I'm getting nervous. And I was saddened to hear of the deaths of the folks in Atlanta. Nobody enjoy seeing citizens--innocent
ones--killed by a nut with a firearm. My thoughts are with the survivors and families. Heck, a former girlfriend, I learned recently, was shot to death by some
crazed addict robbing her apartment 'way back in the late 70's. It will always bother me.
BUT. What can we do-? We in this community are NOT a threat to anyone but a home invader, etc., or a big ol' eight-pointer or wild hog. We are the Good Guys. How can this be made plain and clear to these idiotic politicians-? I used to own rent houses. My tenants were low income, mostly good people, a few a little shady. I got to know them well. One thing was clear: it ain't a big challenge to find a black-market pistol. Couple o' hours, man, tops. Cheap. Have these do-gooders ever stopped to consider the underground economy that thrives across the country and our borders-? Banning the sale of a class of weapon only heightens the possibility of a robbery [attempt] to get OURS. In Texas, we hear a lot of TV quick hits about the Mexican "drug wars" (great business for the shadow companies here. The US is paying mercenaries to train Mexican soldatos who inevitably defect and work for the cartels). Naturally, the talking heads excitedly blab over videotape of captured arms & ammo & piles of dope and dollars, eager to insist the guns came from the Southern US states contiguous with Mexico. Okay--if these were no longer readily available, would not the cartels--who have infinite cash resources--simply buy sea-cans full of AK's from overseas-? To these cats, it's strictly business. They WILL find weapons. Better we should simply outlaw insanity & cruelty instead of banning guns. (Sorry if I'm rambling; just trying to prepare for the fight of our lives.) All I can do is petition the lawmakers, fer or agin', and hope for success. In Texas, the TSRA deserves mention; they are a scrappy bunch. Meanwhile, it's time to fill the sandbags, I guess. Right now, I'm gonna sit on the porch and enjoy the rain. |

This "60 minutes" thing, and other similar "news" frenzies reminds me of being in middle/high school where there was a "clique"
led by some major jerk who was mimicked by a group of junior wannabe jerks making life miserable for normal people. The old "monkey see, monkey do"
now explained as "peer pressure". This is the sort of behavior that gets innocent private law-abiding citizens who are living their constitutionally
protected lives injured.
