Is it possible to form 11mm Gras from another cartridge?

I am finding this will not be an easy or cheap reload. The dies are a bit on the pricey side.

Yep, CH4D dies are around $160, and 348 Winchester brass is not easy to find.
But you can load using cheap 255 to 300 grain cast lead bullets intended for use with the 45 Long Colt. Gregg |

There is a set of RCBS 11mm Gras dies on Gun Broker real cheap.

How hard are the cases to make?

Not hard at all "IF" you know what you are doing.
Have you ever reformed brass before? Gregg |

You can buy 11mm Gras brass from Buffalo Arms formed from 348 Winchester, possibly needing resizing and shortening ($2.00), or fully formed and ready to load
(3.50). Back in College during the 60's I had only 2 pieces of .50-70 brass for my Allen Conversion Trapdoor. I fired these same 2 cases maybe 200 times
without any loading dies (I still have them!). I just punched out the primers with a LEE de-priming rod (just a 1/4" rod with one end turned down to
1/16") and tapped a new primer in on a hardwood block with a 1/4" straight rod and small hammer. These all came with the original "LEE
LOADER" and can be found or made easily. I loaded the 2 pieces of brass over and over right at the shooting bench with no dies.
In a single shot rifle like the Gras or the Trapdoor this works fine. The brass of course, will only work in the same rifle unless resized with loading dies. Use ONLY black powder, which is also available from Buffalo Arms along with cleaning supplies etc. In Cowboy shooting we fire at deer sized targets at 200 yards and hit them 8 out of 10 times from a sitting position with crossed sticks (Buffalo Arms too!) Most the guys waste $2500.00 on a reproduction Sharps rifle. I bought a real .38-55 Hi-Wall for $3000.00. |

You can get 8mm Lebel cases from Graff's, or 348 Win . Anealing the neck/ shoulder area will help make better cases and fewer splits . Prime them and load
with 10.0 of Bullseye powder , then fill almost to the top with Cream of Wheat , cap with a wax plug . Fire in YOUR rifle , be carefull as the exiting material
will come out hard . You will then have cases for your rifle , you may have to trim the lenght . Slug your bore to see what size bullets you will need , .448
to .452 mostly . You can neck size the case neck with a .44 mag , 45acp or 45 Colt sizer die to get the correct neck dia to hold the bullet you want to use .
You can also use the seater die with the seater stem screwed down to seat the bullet . You can get the Cheap Lee die sets, and cut them shorter if needed .
That is a cheap way to do it and it will work .
