I'm leaving for my train-up in an hour or so, thought I'd take a look at the forum while I'm trying to take care of last minute stuff. I bought a
laptop so I'll be able to "drop in" on occasion.

Hey guys,
The last several days have been long, weapons qualification, day and night. My rifle fire was very poor, worst ever. I'm still trying to get a handle on the body armor, CCO (close combat optics) and the "pop up" target range. I missed four targets because I forgot that multiple targets would be exposed. Dumb. Kicked ass with the pistol and managed to down 14 out of 15 with the protective mask on. I was schedualed to be in Brigade Headquarters in the planning and operations section, but it looks like I'll be going to the Cavalry Squadron as a Platoon Sergeant, at least as of this second. Who knows what tomorrow may bring. Cool as sin at night and nice in the afternoon. The barracks are the worst I've ever seen and look like they haven't been touched since WW II when Patton commanded here. Internet access is hard to get and I'm over my cell phone minutes so I don't call "pc in oregon" more than twice a week. That was the hard part. We have been together 33 years and I never saw her cry like that. Not even the day her best childhood friend died. It's the same Army of old, "hurry up and wait," but that's expected.
