Eric, where are you training right now? Sounds like Camp Roberts. Ditto what the rest said on the cell phone, don't be bashful!

Eric: Got your PM. My thoughts are: You are one of us. You are going for all of our sakes and our kids' and grandkids' sakes. And that is why we
offered. Understand your position on this but if you have a need, don't be shy.

My friends,
I truly appreciate the offer, one of the nicest things I've ever experienced. The Army is paying me well (I think, I won't know until the end of the month to see if a pay "issue" has been fixed) and I just have my own issue that won't let me accept such a wonderful and heartfelt offer. Though I've not met any of you face to face I know that I have more friends than a man has a right too. I can't say where I am really, security regulations are a little weird, but it is an old place for sure. I'm sort of in flux now as soldiers are being moved from one unit to another to fill "holes." I'm pretty sure I'm going to an Infantry Battalion, I think as a Battalion Operations Sergeant. I'll know on the 13th what my new duties will be, but I'll do what ever I'm given. As I said before, "on line" access is sparse right now (I'm not paying $40.00 a month to walk five blocks to use the wifi hotspot here withlimited free time, I'm too cheap) but they're putting in a free access site that will be available in a day or two. A company has bought all the wireless contracts available here and you can't get a signal unless your sitting on their front porch. Things are sort of messed up right now, this is the first time my Brigade has been activated as a whole since WW II, so things are a little confused as peope are getting up to speed doing their jobs. The"little guys" are doing a good job and are doing better all the time. Things will only get better. Your friend, Eric

"What HoosierDaddy said", double. You get "there" and find some things we can help with, we can help. I have been sending things to your
compatriots in I and A for some time now. Makes many of us feel that we are doing more than just paying our taxes to let our troops know that we remember and
we care. Say; come to think of it, your posting hasn't shut this string down yet... we won't let it happen.

Eric: I give you the traditional Navy farewell. Smooth Sailing, Shipmate. And I attach something that has comforted and protected me through 20 years of active
service, including many deployments and two combat cruises. It's a secret so you have to decypher it. Best wishes, Pal. Dave

I only have a minute.
Masterchief, I gotcha, but us Army slugs still use "Left" and "Right." What a goat rope here at wonderful Camp Robinson California. It can only get better. Thanks for the support guys, I am truly grateful. I should have better access next month at Ft. Stewart Georgia, however we'll see. Eri

Good morning Parallax Bills! | ||

Hi guys,
It's a little before 0600, I got up at 0430 to open the BN HQ for my new unit. So far I'm an Operations NCO for 1/186 Infantry out of Ashland Oregon. That means I stand by to run errands, make coffee and keep the place neat. Whoop de do. However today I'll be tasked to document the training for the troops. That is important as Big Army has gotten all "A" type about training as some Congressman has leaned on them about insuring that every soldier is fully trained. Apparently some poor guy got killed and his parents complained that he wasn't fully trained (and maybe more than one) so documentation, digital records, etc, etc must be in triplicate. My issued weapons are the M-9 Beretta (qualified expert) and the M-4 Carbine (qualified Marksman as I had forgotten that there are multiple targets on the "pop-up" range) with all sorts of widgets attached. ACOG Reflex sight, laser sight, combination forward pistol grip/bi-pod for starters. I hadn't shot a range like that since 1973 and had shot 5 targets before I realized that two were standing. Tunnel vision. Crap. Also still getting used to the IBA (individual body armor) and knee and elbow pads. Shooting with that stuff sucks big time. I signed out a flash light thingy last night (which I refuse to put on) and a AN/PVS 14 night vision device. The day before we were issued all new gear, which is really sweet. I'll have to read the directions this time, there is WAY TOO MUCH stuff in that bag! Any way, things appear to be settling down and training appears to be progressing O.K. Take care friends. Eric

Good work, Eb. You are amking us proud. Serving your country and having a little fun with the shooting at the same time. Nicely done. How much does all that
stuff weigh? How long are you going to be gone for? How are the mags in the M9? I've heard bad things about them...

Eb, thank you for your service once again. I imagine you'll settle in ok and being in operations, you'll more than likely to never be too bored. All
new gear does sound sweet, we all know a lot of times non-RA guys get the short end of that stick when the kit gets handed out.
Will you eventually get to carry your personal sidearm or do you like the M-9 well enough? Eli By-the-way, just to be sure you're never bored, pick up one of these and use your imagination as to where to put it.

Sounds like all they need to issue you for the rifle is the Kung Fu Grip ... I bet there is some added wieght and some awkwardness till you get used to it.
Take care Jason

I'm up early again today, most of my new unit was up late last night shooting the night qualification course for the M-4. I did it on the 3rd so I'm
good. Whoa, I made the coffee strong enough to peel paint this morning. Ummm good.
Eli, I'll look at your link when I get a chance. I'm using a military computer (the BN S-2 ain't in yet) and even if it wasn't the military Internet will not let you look at a good amount of web sites. I'm fortunate really that I can come here still. Maybe at Ft. Stewart next month. No personnal weapons, period. They even frown on knives over 3 inches, can you believe that? What has happened to the Army? We're killers, but only with precision munitions and aircraft. What a load of horse dung.
Flapjack, Don't need no stinking "Kung Fu grip!"
