VCI anti-rust/corrosion |

Have any site members used or had reports with VCI anti-rust/corrosion wrap/poly bags for storage? Does it effect finish or grip materials. I am interested in
trying the wrap or bags for pistol storage. I would use with the Protecta-gun kraft boxes.

We used some of the stuff similar to their stuff at work very unsuccessfully. The system was never taught to the average mechanic who rummaged through things
and left them askew and a mess and virtually compromised anything they could have done good. I talked at length to their representative at the PGCA show in
Greensburg. It sounds like it would work but why spend extra money if RIG and Balistol and other oils are already employed and work. Bags get ripped if I look
at them wrong and things are always being moved around so I doubt it would be very practical in use. Long term it might be an answer but I fire and clean and
move and inspect daily in the summer and that just seems like a pain to me, plus more money for something else I may not need. Just an opinion and everyone
will have one for sure. I would wager there are not too many of us who have used them though. Bill

Bill,
Thank you for responding, I have used RIG for years upon years and it is good stuff. I am of course thinking long term storage, as I have a pile of pistols and most will never be fired, by me. I am planning a better way to store them in my safes by way of Protecta-gun kraft boxes, RIG'ing them and using perhaps coated paper for wrapping, kinda like the way S&W used to do way back when. Boxes would be very stackable and still accessible without a lot of effort. Thought the VCI bags or VCI wrap might be an alternative to the coated plain paper. Cost of the bags is not an issue as I have a friend that can get them for me cents to the bag. Opinions and how others do it are appreciated. Here's one I have done as an experiment.

Francis if you are looking at long term and not going to be checking them or showing them off to friends who visit or shooting them and your buddy can get a
price break then they may be the answer. If you need occasional access to them the bags do not hold up and tend to get hard and brittle in time (which I meant
to mention in previous post) and will not hold up. That coating makes the bag degrade faster than normal plastic and the ones we had tended to flake and be all
over the place and not afford protection after awhile. We had spares in them and people just did not believe the labels and had to see them for themselves
breaking the bags up and actually getting pieces of them into the small pumps and stuff making a cleanup of a new part necessary before installation. The best
thing I have ever used in that manner is just plain oiled paper, things can be re-wrapped easily and that paper lasts forever. Look at a lot of pistols being
shipped today and they still come wrapped in that too. I have also used these foam stick ups that are supposed to stop rust and they were totally useless and
actually ended up getting into the works of equipment when they lost their sticking ability. Rig is a pain in the butt to use and remove but it works almost
forever. Maybe I am just getting old and jaded I don't know but sometimes the older tried and true ways are the best to me. Signed the opinionated set in
his ways old fart I guess! Hehe! Bill
