How can you tell date of manufacture on M-95s

I bought 3 of what Century had advertised as cracked stock M-95s. 2 are absolutely in excellent condition, and 1 with beautiful tiger stripe and NO cracks or anything wrong with either. The third is more used and obviously was a reworked rifle. This one has a wood plug where the original sling swivel was attached to the bottom of the butttsock. The only thing wrong with thiis carbine besides a lot of obvious use is a chip out of the hand guard near the rear sight. I am quite happy with these carbines for $50.00 each. I was curious about when they were made.I will try to get photos on the site as soon as I can. Mike

Posts: 3877 (04/12/09 06:48 PM) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts Report Post	There should be an acceptance mark on the barrel shank that will date the year the M95 was accepted into Austrian or Hungarian military service. The stamp will be either Wn-eagle symbol-last two numbers of the date year, or Bp-St Stephan crest-last two numbers of date year. For example, Bp - St Stephen crest- 15 would mean that the M95 was accepted into Hungarian military use in 1915. Unfortunately, when these guns were converted to 8x56R often the S stamp was placed over the original acceptance stamp, maaking the date unreadable.

I know that they were reworked later, but what is the latest date that they were manufactured at the arsenals? Mike

Posts: 3884 (04/13/09 11:13 PM) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts Report Post	I think Czechoslovakia made them with new parts that they received as WWI reparations up to 1920-21. I think both defeated Austria and Hungary were granted permission by the Allies to manufacture a very small number per year after 1918 (about 3,000 per year max).
