Obama and the "Assault Weapons" Ban |
Lead | |
|
Did anyone see the soundbite from one of Obama's news conferences in Mexico? He said he was not going to renew the "Assault Weapons" ban because
it would be too hard and take too much time and effort to get it through Congress. Raise your hand all those who believe him. He said it was already illegal to
export "assault weapons" out of the United States (Duh) so he is going to concentrate on vigorously enforcing the laws that are already on the books.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't that what all the pro-gun organizations (NRA, 2nd Ammendment Foundation, etc.) have been saying for years?
Be thankful we're not getting all the government we're paying for .... Will Rogers

I read about his comments at a news website. This morning I heard a radio interview with a local Congressman from KY, John Yarmouth (D). He repeated all the
Obama talking points about the renewal of the AWB being politically infeasible at this time, American guns being responsible for Mexican drug cartel violence,
and that the original AWB was a good idea. He also got a shot in at the NRA, calling that organization a tool of the gun manufacturers. Yarmouth also drew
parallels between the latest rash of multiple shootings and gun owners' paranoia over possible new anti-gun legislation.
IMHO more gun laws are part of the current administration's agenda, but much lower in priority than nationalization of the banking industry, the auto makers, and health care, as well as legalization of illegal immigrants. Right now gun control ranks way down on the importance scale, next to foreign policy issues. edit. Rep Yarmouth did say one thing that I found encouraging. He stated that at least 65 of his fellow democrats in the House of Representatives are opposed to any renewal of the AWB.

Vaild conversation but we need to be more careful to stick to Milsurping discussions. Bill has been pretty permissive lately since the election but we have
been having a few too many political/gun control discussions lately.
