Boy! If that revolver could talk! It's certainly seen it's share of gunfights. I hope you shoot it occasionally just to let it know it's still
loved.

Can you check that number again. If it is 1945 it probably has a Z before the D like ZD 72XX. Definately came from the same place wherever that is.

If there is an enfield logo on the side plate then it has to be 1934 if it is a D range gun. If you are getting the date from the top of the barrel then it
must be a ZD and probably dated 1944.

D 72XX range may have been right where the year changed fro 1934 to 1935 so the 45 may be 35. Charlie

You may have something very unusual there. Enfield revolvers stopped using the side plate Enfield logo and date in 1941. After that they had a
"DI*" on the side plate and the date appeared on top of the barrel. The date on the barrel and frame for pre 1942 Enfields were usually one year
off. Example frame date 1941 barrel date 42. The Enfields were serial numbered in blocks starting with no letter in 1929 for the first 10000 then using
letter A for the next 10000 and so on. Thr D range was on guns dated 1934 and 1935. I own one dated 1934 with D 41XX serial number. 1942 guns would be in
the higher letter range P through U. Once they reached 100000 they used ZA and went as high as ZJ for the letter prefix. 1945 dated pistols I have seen are in
the ZH to ZJ range.
If I had to guess I would say your pistol could have been assembled from parts left over at the Enfield factory. They could have used pre 1941 frame and stamped it 1945 with a left over 1942 barrel. However it does not explain the D prefix serial number especially on a 1942 dated barrel. Mystery. Charlie |

Wow what a mystery. Reguler dated Enfields were marked with the full date under the Enfield logo. Looks like yours was hand stamped in 45 and assembled
from pre 1941 parts. If that thing could only talk. My guess is that the gun was manufactured in 1934 or 1935 with the serial number placed on the frame
and cylinder but never assembled. The parts were assembled at a later date with a left over 42 dated barrel and hand stamped 45 frame. I would consider it
a rare variation but some research would have to be done. Some may consider it a left over parts gun however it has matching serial numbers which suggests it
was factory assembled somewhere. If you decide to seel it let me know. Charlie

Do you suppose that the Indians or Pakistanis might have had a hand in the final configuration of this revolver? I've read that both are very secretive
about their small arms manufacturing and "rebuilding", however there doesn't seem to be any markings on the revovler to note their involvement.
I'll certainly keep you in mind if I decide to sell it. You might send me a pm with your contact information so I can file it away. Thanks again for all the info, Dan

Dan: That is a good possibility. If it was reworked in England it would have An FTR with a date stamped on the frame. FTR is for "Factory Through
Repair". I noticed that both our pistols were imported by the same company in VT. and they both have the white numbers painted on the frame. I will
contact them and see if they remember who or where they imported these weapons. This will give us an idea of where they were and what rework they could have
gone through. My Enfield is dated 1941 and has the Enfield logo on the frame. Barrel date is 42 Serial No M 23XX. Charlie

The * stamped later makes since. The year the frame was manufactured (1934 or 1935) pistol would have a hammer and be a MK 1. They added the * after the 1
when it was converted to double action only and the hammer spur was removed. This confirms that the frame is from 34 or 35. Charlie

They contacted me back and requested serial numbers. They will tell us when Century purchased and sold the guns. I also requested just the country they came
from. Hopefully we will hear something tomorrow.
I have a post on the Forum trying to get additional serial numbers from forum members on Enfield revolvers but I am not having much success with that either. I will let you know what i find out. Charlie |
