I've decided to start accumulating parts for my first FAL, and have been reading and researching. I've already ruled out a Century rifle, and other completed guns (i.e. from DSA) are a little out of my price range for an all-at-once purchase.
My goal is to put together a FAL that is as close to original military condition as is legally possible, based on whichever parts set I end up going with. I'm planning on getting a DSA upper receiver since those seem to be the best that are easily available, though not the cheapest (but whats a hundred bucks here or there in a thousand dollar project?)
I have a couple questions on parts sets I have not been able to answer yet:
- What is a "Brazilian G1" parts set? I was under the impression that the G1 was a West German contract FAL.
- Condition is a major factor. Any opinions as to which are the best FAL parts sets out there in terms of condition? I don't want to have to do any major repairs for my first build....thanks in advance for any pointers!
