I've accumulated a great collection of enfields but have a real desire to convert one to 308.
Are parts available from time to time on ebay or anywhere else or is this a pipe dream ?
Thanks for the great forum !
John

Why not just find a 2A1, and don't fire full factory loads in it. Be cheaper.skd

The goal was to "build" with a new barrel/bolthead/mag etc and make an equiv. to really clean No4 Mk1* but with a tight chamber and minimal headspace
that could be made to shoot sub MOA....
Are barrels and the other bits still made ? could one of the custom barrel houses do it ? do the parts show up on ebay ? thanks john

If I recall correctly, Sterling Armament produced .308/7.62 mm NATO conversion kits for the UK and Commonwealth forces in the late 1950's - early 1960's. It was to be a stop gap effort designed to alleviate the time between developing, testing, & fielding a self-loading rifle by converting No. 4 rifles from the vast stocks of WWII & post WW II No. 4's. Periodically, such kits come up for sale. But the Sterling kits are extremely expensive as well as few & far between. Haven't heard
of or seen one for sale in a good many years.
It might just be easier to look for a .308 No. 4. Those that I've seen came out of Canada from Long Branch. Again, such rifles are expensive & hard to find. Good luck. Let us know what turns up. I wouldn't mind having one myself....

Once you have found the parts, you will need a good gunsmith to do the work, especially the rebarreling work. It can add up...

"...Joe Salter..." Very big bucks for collector grade stuff. Bordering on piracy.
There's more to converting a Lee-Enfield to .308 Win than just a barrel. You need to modify the extractor and the mag. Ishapores were not converted No. 1's. They were made from scratch. It really is better to find a No. 2A Mk III.
Spelling and grammar count!
