Peruvian Mod 91 Carbine ???????? |
Lead | |
|
In Collin Websters book,"Argentine Mauser Rifles 1871-1959", page 125, these carbines are for real. I just read an old posting on another board that
these carbines are probably importer cut down rifles for sale to the public. Does anyone know for sure? How about Peruvian Mod 91 short rifles? Thanks for the
help.

One of these? Yes, it's real and not a cut down by the importer.

Thank you Sir. I thought so. I just got one and all indications it looks like the real thing to me. Exactly like the one in your Pic. Thanks again. Ed

It shoots suprisingly well for an 1891 that's been through several hands over the years.

Looks like the most common locally-made 1891 carbines observed around here. More properly a short rifle, they were made from cut-down 1891 rifles, showing a
refinished cut-down stock, bent down bolt, Lange-type rear sight, 24" or so SJG-stamped replacement barrel, cut-down cleaning rod and few if any
lettering, s/n or crest remaining after the rebluing/polishing process. Most were probably seldom used (Corrosive-primed ammo and ill cleaning procedures would
otherwise prove me wrong) and show a fine or even mint barrel.
Yes, they're for real but not an original Mauser factory product, but a local refurbished gun probably done between 1912 and the early '30s |

That's a nice one mauserdad!!
Mine doesn't have a crest. The receiver is sterile aside from the serial number.
