Brazilian Serial nr. question |
Lead | |
|
Among my collection of Brazillian Mausers I have one of the "Rebel" rifles ordered from CZ in the 1930's by the Sao Paulo rebels. These are
VZ-24's with some mods asked for by the rebels, such as a turned down bolt with the bolt knob flattened on the underside and checkered. Stock cut out for
the turned down bolt, cal 7m/m. Mine has 2 sets of serial numbers, one set from the factory, on the left side of the receiver, and another set on the right
side of the receiver. I assume that the 2nd set was applied after the rebellion when the rifle was taken into Brazillian service. Serial nr. is PM08xxx. My
question is.....what does the PM stand for? Anybody know? Thanks, DM

Brazilian Vz24s | ||
|
Since they were "non-standard" as far as the 1934 ZB 12/33 or 16/33 rifles were concerned (the Brazilian M1908/34 by ZB) it is most probably that the
"Vz24 Ex Rebels" were destined to the Policia Militar ( MPs ) of either the Armed Forces, or those of the Federal Capital District (who had their own
rifles, anyway ( Vergueiro M1904/07, in 7mm) & since the number of rifles surrendered/captured was either 10,000 or 15,000, The serial PMxxxxx fits in with
such a totasl of rifles...some did not get "renumbered", I have one such, with only the original ZB serial.
My best deduction... Doc AV AV Ballistics. |
