Need help for my sick m48 |

I would like to keep my yugo m48 original but I need a new barrel! Does anyone know where I can get a new yugo m48 barrel? IIf cannot find one, then I need to
buy a standard contour barrel and a new stock to fit the barrel...any other suggestions other than turning my yugo into parts?

Why do you need a new barrel? If I had a M48 that truly needed a new barrel I would try to pick up a barreled receiver rather than go through the aggravation
of having to remove the old barrel and properly headspace the new barrel....which requires specialized tools (barrel vise, receiver wrench, go and no go
gauges, and perhaps a lathe). BTW, a M24/47 barreled receiver will fit right in your stock.

Thanks for your reply Eagle 7; I need a new barrel because the barrel I have is badly worn and no longer is as accurate as it used to be.. Removing the old
barrel and installing a new one is NOT a problem for me...I would rather keep the reciever I have and would hope I can find a new barrel still in the wrapper
and in cosmoline.. I have found old barrels like that for my 98 mausers. I hope they are available for my M48..

Numrich list barrels for the M48. It's rare to find an M48 with a worn out barrel but I guess it's possible.

Howdy Gmk7741 and welcome to Parallax Bill's Yugo Mauser Forum!
Somethings to consider. First of all, the Yugo "safety breech." Are you familiar with it? There's a relief cut in the bolt face for the extractor to fully enclose the cartridge case. That means your barrel will have to be correctly "clocked" as well as headspaced. "It's rare to find an M48 with a worn out barrel but I guess it's possible." Not so rare as all that. A lot of these saw plenty of service in the 90s. Diplomacy is the art of saying nice doggie until you can find a rock. Will Rogers |

Thank you TKacook and nothernug for your help and knowledge. I have a great many "custom rifles" but my M48 has become one of my favorites..I have to
admit that when I say I like to keep this M48 close to original, my friends would laugh as I really "Experiment" and make small changes to give me a
"one of a Kind" look and a weapon that I enjoy shooting! I dislike a metal butt plate especially when I am at the range with several rifles and I am
going to fire 150 to 200 rounds. So my m48 has a nice rubber Butt pad! I also have a quick release Scope mount and a small 4 power luepold scope on my M48. I
dislike a rear sight that does not have windage adjustment ! So, I mounted an old 1894 (I believe) Krag sight right where the original sight was mounted. I
needed to enlarge the wood opening a little and put a round file to lower the wooden groove.. Viola, It works very well, This old sight even has a small PEEP
that can be raised up from the back.. The peep sight hole was so small I opened it up just a hair so my old eyes could see through it.. The open sights are
excellent to 100 meters and using the peep, most bullets are kept in a six inch circle at 200.. Using a bench and sand bags of course! Now to upset a few, with
my new barrel, I beleive I may change the caliber to 8mm 06.. Since I reload for all my rifles, I know that the ballistics are a huge improvement up to 175
grain sp. bullet..Nothing wrong with an 8mm. I kept my persian 8mm (for now)... anyway, this is the way I enjoy my guns and shooting..I estimate that I shoot
about 500 or more rounds a month (sometimes way more) and I kill and wound a lot of paper! Today we had to call a ceased fire at the range to let a small doe
walk accross the 100 meter target area. She even stop to graze a little.. Poor thing got to be deaf or has grown up on the range and has no fear of rifle
fire... I have not hunted since leaving SE Asia in the 60's and looking at that little doe made me happy I don't hunt ! Not that I would not like to
take a bear or moose someday before I die but I could not shoot a small doe that will walk onto a firing range to graze while 10 or more people were shooting!
Well, enough for now, again thanks for your help..
