Thanks Ed! It has the best bore of any 38 I've handled over the years.
It is counter-bored like the others, but the lands and grooves are crisp and bright. The only thing that I would've liked better is if it had been in a true 38 stock instead of the one size fits all 44 stock. The finish is on there pretty good too, no flaking when I took it apart last night to look at all of the stampings on the metal. I wish I had thought to take some pictures of all of that before I put it back together. Why are the 38 sling "collars" so long? My guess is that it is to make up for the really short sling. Even with it adjusted all the way out, it can barely be used to shoulder the carbine. Now to find a 91/30 bayonet and wallow/hog the inside diameter out to make it fit this barrel.....

The M44 had an integral bayonet, or pig sticker that folded back along the stock and the stock had a recess cut into it to allow it to seat without sticking
out to the side. The M38 was not designed to have a bayonet, so it does not have this stock relief cut into the stock. Other than that, they were practical
identical rifles.

Outstanding find on the pair of M-38"s,they are getting hard to find today. The good thing about the M44 is that after you shot the wild pig, just extend
the bayonet out to cook your lunch on a open fire.

Wow. That is one of the nicest M-38's I've ever seen. Sweet!
Nice find Chuck. I don't think I could have waited that long to snatch it up though.
I have a few M-44's that I like (Century 3-fer) but your M38 just has a "cleaner" look to it without the bayonet, and I'll bet it balances a lot better too.
Hopefully my employment situation will improve soon, and maybe I will be able to find a 38 half as nice as that one.....

It is indeed a very nice looking M-38. I can honestly say I have never seen one in anywhere even close to that condition. Admittingly, I have not seen too many
M-38's as compared to M-44's and M-91/59's, but all the ones I saw have been real "veterans" if you know what I mean.

It is a Century import marked receiver.
I looked at it last summer about this time of the year and it has been on the shelf there until last Friday. I waited a week, checked gunbroker and the trade boards and didn't see too many for sale and the ones that were had (IMO) ridiculous starting bids and buy it now prices, so I snapped and bought this one. I drop in that shop about 6-8 times a year, just to stay familiar with things and see what new things might come out of pawn. Fortunately, milsurps in that part of the world aren't valued when complete in the original wood. It would have been crazy high priced had it been in a plastic stock with a cut & screwed on bolt.

picked this up @ a gunshow. Hoped it would fit on my wirewrap, but it's more modern- looks like NATO standard. Anybody got a recipe

ARGHHHHH!!! That is yet another beautiful pocket pistol!!!
The practice grenade (gernade.... You need a cup launcher for the wire wrapped Enfield. Then the projectiles for the cup are their own unique experiment in finding the right diameter and weight of object if you actually want to launch something.

OK, here's a May ordered, then returned then replaced here in June:
Here's what they sent me initially. Missing parts, worn out exterior, sad looking Chilean.

The best part is that they have raised the price on these by $50 since last month too.
Now to find a sling, muzzle cover, ammo pouch and cleaning kit that would be correct for this rifle.

I bought this as I was walking out the door, literally. I dropped the check into the mailbox on my way to the "pick-up" site. I haven't even
seen it yet, but my wife tells me it's there waiting in the box for me when I get home next May.

OK, one more handgun to add to the month of June.
It shoots BB's but it is still a fun gun.

Well EB,that's about the cleanest VZ 52 that I have seen in a long time. Most of them are just beat to pieces or have that pick up truck bed liner stuff
sprayed all over the wood. A rare find, lucky you !
