Was wondering what are some of the powders being used in this category for a 150 grain bullet with the K31? I have H4895 and IMR 4350 which would fit this category. I called Hodgdon and the man said to use 43.0 grains of IMR 4350 for the K31. In other words he said to reduce the H4350 data by 2 grains. The only two manuals I have that list the 7.5x55 give 45.0 grains for H 4350. 40.0 grains for H4895, which would fill the case about 3/4th full. The only other powder I have that is listed in the load data is H335 and it would fill only a little over half full. Don't to use a filler unless absolutely necessary. shotout/skd

Also in the Sierra manual I like the IMR 4064 start loads for the same bullet. No fillers used. jeff

Personally I feel that choosing a line in the case and using that to determine which and how much of a propellent to use is a poor way to reload. Different guns and their bores have different requirements when it comes to loading ammunition and you'll rarely find the best load for a firearm by doing what you propose. I suggest you put aside the notion of loading only by which powder best fills the case and take what you have in store and work out your loads the traditional way. You can always check your loads, once established, with a small marked dowel, to see if you have double charged a case and you'll be happier with the results on the range or in the field. I am not picking a spot where I want to load the case to. What I should have said is I do not want to use a filler. There fore I want to use a powder that fills the case at least 75%. This does not mean I will use a powder that does this re guard less of whether it is the listed powder or not. That is how I am reading your response. I will use the powder's listed in the load data. What I am saying is, some do not fill the case as much as others. Bottom line, I was asking what powders was being used that fill the case approx.75%+. Loads that are listed in the data for that case, of course. Hope I made my self clear, shouldn't be to hard to understand with out trying to make a simple thing complicated. skd/shotout Don't know if I ever mentioned it or not. I feel when a filler is used if one is not careful he could develop a compressed load.

It list the useful case capacity and gives the amount a given powder will fill the case. I do not have to fill a case with a potential useful powder then weigh it. Example--useful case capacity for the 7.5x55 Swiss is 3.90cc 40.0 grains H4895 fills to 2.91)----------- 45.0 grains H4350 fills to 3.26) These are starting loads 47.0 grains H4831 fills to 3.41.)------------ I have neither H4831 or H 4350. I do have IMR4350. But the manual don't list IMR 4350 for this cal. The man at Hodgdon told me to use 43.0 grains of IMR4350 for the start load. Which is 2 grains less than H4350. shotout
