It was pullet from an 8x56r brass case.Headstamp has a capitol A at 12 oclock,39 at 6 oclock and asterisks at 3 and 9 oclock. The bullet has a slight step about 5/16" from tip and tip appears to be black. The pulled bullet has a boat-tail and jacket is attracted to a magnet.The jacket was removed using a file to expose core. The core is made up of 3 pieces held together by the jacket. the pieces are cut at approx. a 30 degree angle. The core pieces are gray in color and are not attracted to a magnet. I have not weighed the pieces yet,but I will later today. I am new to posting and do not know how to add pics. I have a few pics of bullet on my computer I can add if someone can tell me how to do it. Thanks in advance.

The jacket weighs 24.4 gr., the nose 74.3 gr.,the middle seation 52.3 gr. and the rear section 55.3 gr. for a total weight of 206.3 gr. Here are a some more pics. My neighbor was in the Armed Guard ( US Navy Gunners assigned to merchant ships on the Atlantic crossings) and he brought home aCaricano rifle and ammo. The bullets as best I can remember Were three or four lead slugs sheathed in a copper split covering that would probably spread open in four sections like a peeled bannana. I never thought about this until now. Kowsky Raider.

Posts: 2240 (06/21/09 10:15 AM) Veteran member Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts Report Post	The Cartridges you have in the clip are a relatively uncommon Hungarian 31M Short range trainer ammo. They occasionally show up in mixed lots of Hungarian Ammo, or even in the large consignements out of Bulgaria in the last 20 years. Unlike the Italian "Guard" cartridge ( or Riot Round), the Hungarian ones were meant only for Indoor or Short range shooting, although they may have made their way into the common Ball ammo supply during the war. ("anthing that shoots!"). The Italians had a specific "Magistri" frangible, for Short range shooting, which was constructed with a thin jacket, lead dust, and a small nose cone. It fragmented when striking the Internal range brick back stops. Very nice collectible, especially a full clip! Regards, Doc AV AV Ballistics.

I got these on Gunbroker, guy had 29 rounds assorted 8x56 ammo. When I got it I decided not to shoot any of it, as there were several steel cases ,6 of these, and several with headstamp LM superimposed. kyswede
