Short Turk front sight question

Posts: 25 (07/02/09 09:02 PM) active member Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts Report Post	Tags : None My Kirikkale Short Rifle (short M38 Turk) has a botched-up front sight. It looks like the turkish armorer welded a steel post in place and then filed the post to a crude blade point. The rifle shoots reasonably well but point of impact is three inches to the right at 100 yards. It groups reasonably well. The date on the receiver is hard to determine - either 1945 or 1946 I've read that these short Turk rifles were built/converted from gew 98 AZ carbines. I am wondering if a new kar 98A front sight base and blade would fit my rifle and fix the problem AND if it's worth the time and trouble? I can get the parts and my best friend is a gunsmith. Advice?

Hopefully the welded parts will not affect the removal of the sight/base. Can you get the point of impact where you want it by holding 3" to the left of point of aim? Posts: 1615 (07/04/09 01:01 PM) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts Report Post	All the Turkish rifles that are marked "K.Kale" on the receiver ring were built by the Turks between 1939 or 1940 and 1946 and not reworked from other Mausers. Other models were reworked but not the K.Kale models. The Kar98a reworks are easy to identify because they are small ring receivers. The front sight arrangement on the K.Kale short rifle is from a Kar98a and will interchange. The Turks jst grond the ears down a little to allow the bands to be removed. But getting the little front sight insert out and back in is a puzzle I haven't solved yet. Good luck. Joe Last Edited By: jwh2 07/04/09 01:05 PM. Edited 1 times.

I'm leaning toward just enjoying the rifle as it is... and maybe a little Kentucky windage will have to do when I shoot it in this case - I don't see how the front sight insert works either.
