 Thought you might like some pictures of this SMLE
conversion, Canadian marked. Started life as a No.1, Mk III. Barrel is a BSA with a like-new bore. Lots of fun to shoot. Just needed a good cleaning. Did the
stock with Murphy's, and lots of coats of BLO - veery dry wood. Shoots under 1" at 25 yd. ] p/Number%202%20Mark%20IV/IMG_ 3996.jpg[/IMG]

Unfortunately, they come along only rarely. I'm in Canada, so was lucky to get this from an estate private sale. I have seen them posted for sale, rarely,
on one dealer's site. It's a matter of checking the sites, and shows, and waiting. They are getting pricey, too. The listed price was around $800+ on
the dealer's site, and it sold at that price, apparently. They are worth the wait, as everyone who has shot mine has confirmed how much they enjoyed
shooting it, and most of them want me to sell. Ain't gonna happen! I also got an issue rear sight from another SMLE to replace the one removed when the
Cooey rear sight was installed, and it shoots very well with that too, though my 60 yr. old eyes prefer the Cooey.

Do any or all of yours have the conversion date stamped on them? I've gone over mine thoroughly and can't find any date other than the original 1915 on
the butt socket. If they appear, where do they appear on yours? The box magazine of mine is not stamped ".22". Is that the case with any of yours?

I believe all of the ones I now have are marked "22" on the mag. I had a few more I sold off, I'm not sure about those. It's been a while since I dug mine out but I know at least a couple have conversion dates marked one them. I once owned an RFI that was converted in the 70's. I hadn't known they converted any that late until I owned that one. |
