It's awful blurry, but the crest could be that of an 1891. Is it a long-rifle or a carbine? It's common to find the crest on carbines, but not so
common to find one still on a long-rifle.

Looks like a bit of a mix-master that has seen Bubba's workshop at some point. Still, it has the crest intact and if the stock and barrel haven't been
cut down, you may be able to restore it to near issue condition.
I don't think I've ever seen nor heard of a three wire handgaurd. The bolt handle shouldn't be bent either. Does the bolt handle serial number match the rest of the rifle? Who is the manufacturer, Loewe or DWM? Serial number range should likely be something above the E series based on the magazine retention screw, but the bolt shroud is typical of the first 50,000 rifles. If it shoots good, I think you did extremely well at the price you quoted, and it won't take much to restore it at all. Replacement handgaurds are pretty common and not very expensive on ebay and elsewhere while bolt bodies may still be available from Springfield Sporters or Sarco or some such. Congrats, and good luck on that, I think you will enjoy it! |

It is Loewe. sr# K **** bolt number gone. I know the barrel is all there, if that is the only top piece of wood the stock is all there.
But stock is ok. The barrel is 29 inches.Lands and grooves to the end of muzzle. And I am satisfied with it. ![]() shotout

More pics would be great, specially to see if the stock length is correct (About 40"). Un-scrubbed 1891 infantry rifles in the US are not common (Seems
like one Argentinian law forced scrubbed National Crest for exporting rifles) and form what I can see in the blurry picture, it seems like the rear sight is
still the original one too, with only 1 regulation button instead of 2 and the sight graduations for the 200+ gr. round-nosed ammo employed before the
introduction of the flatter trajectory Spitzer bullet.
All the long-handguard stocks I've observed have in fact the grooves for using either the short or long handguard carved inside the barrel channel, but this is the 1st. handguard I've seen with the 3 wire channels made and used. Probably an aftermarket (Or arsenal-made at best) alteration. Bolt handle looks sporterized, curved downwards...maybe it's a replacement but could also (Sadly) be the original one. At least it can be replaced by a correct one to restore the original military looks. Receiver around the Argentinian crest looks threaded for installing a telescopic sight base....is it? If so, it would be a sad alteration, but can at least be aesthetically corrected by fitting same size screws and carefully filing them to plug the holes. Collector value is lost though.

Yes it is scope drilled and the bolt is turned down. How it was when I got it and will stay as is unless I mount a scope.
I know the value has been shot down and will not waste $$$'s on it to return to original because it will not bring it back. It shoots true and I can live with that. At least it did not turn out to be a "beast" like my P14 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() shotout

The 1891 is approximately one half inch shorter than my 98/29. The wood is longer on the 1891. Does this sound right?
