I split off these replies on that old topic to try and generate some new activity.

We'd like to see new members introduce themselves in a new thread. It's to easy to miss or overlook a new reply on an old topic and I'd hate for to see new folks go unwelcomed.

Diggerdan, welcome to you. Always glad to have folks from "down under" drop in. There some other of your fellow countrymen, (Would "mates" be the proper term?), here. It has to be tough keeping the shooting and collecting spirit alive there. There is an Enfield forum that will certainly welcome your participation. Your sported Enfields may be a little difficult.
Clearly, this is a collectors site dedicated to the preservation of C&R and Milsurp weapons in as near to "original condition" as can be maintained. For the purpose of a well used military weapon, that wouldn't, in most cases, be in new or unissued condition. There are of course exceptions, most notably Yugo stored refurbs. But for the rest, one of our members defines it very well: He allows they should look "as they did when the last soldier handed it in for the last time." Milsurps permanently altered, ie, drilled and tapped (D&T), barrels cut, stocks chopped, that sort of thing, we refer to as "sporterized" and that is strictly a no no here. As a rule, discussion of such weapons or the processes involved in rendering them so, is against our rules.

But there are exceptions and I would not be surprised if yours fall into this category. Those are weapons sported, mostly by competent, local gunsmiths, in the years more immediately after WWII and perhaps culminating in the 1960s, when milsurps were considered as much 'throw away' weapons as anything and could be made into fine hunting and target rifles available at a fraction of the cost of commercially produced weapons. My dad had one such himself (sadly stolen some years ago.) But in todays market where these weapons have become collectible and prices rival commercial weapons, such alteration is not really justified, at least not by us. There is no forum dedicated for such sported weapons. But if you cared to and they do fall into such category, you might post them on the "parallax view." Just specify the years and conditions in which they were done. Even still, there will be those who do not approve. just be aware of that. Ok.
