Posts: 29 Dec 28 09 8:09 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Tags : None I've recently been restoring a small pile of these Mauser M1871/84s. I'm just finishing up the stock right now. The real problem I have is that When the action is in the stock I cannot get the bolt closed. Out of the stock it works well but in the stock the cartridge lifter seems to bottom out on the stock/trigger guard and I cannot get the bolt all the way closed. Does this have to do with wood shrinkage in this 150 year old rifle? Am I diagnosing the problem incorrectly? I have tried my completed action in two different stocks and I am having the same issue in both. Does anyone have a fix or diagnosis for this problem?

Posts: 144 Feb 8 10 9:08 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Doug: I was looking at a 71/84 in a shop today with the very same issue. Part of it may be the timing of the bolt, compounded by gummy grease, etc., that retards the action of the lifter.

Posts: 29 Feb 8 10 9:43 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Mine is working now after much playing AND EVEN BREAKING ONE PART! Mine was gummed up and the ejector was a hair too large. It was getting caught on the cartridge lifter cam and would not allow the bolt to close. I used a dremel to remove the offending burr and all was right with the world.

Posts: 144 Feb 11 10 11:49 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Doug: I am familiar with Triple 7. It tends to give more velocity than regular black but with minimal fouling. Be aware, however that some of the guys using it in Sniders and Martinis over on the British Militaria boards have had severe and unexpected case corrosion with T7, which is especially painful given how expensive our brass tends to be.

In fact, I have been impressed wiht how clean the cases are after firing them. They have not needed any tumbling or polishing. The same cannot be said for my Martini Hnery brass which is loaded with traditional Black Powder. In fact the 777 loaded brass is cleaner than my fired 30/06 brass which I load with IMR 4895. Would that corrosion be visible or would it be microscopic?
