The crest removal was more destructive than usual but I'm not worried about it's impact on collectibility. I only bought it to go with my rifle and I only paid $52.95 for it so I think I came out ok. I know some (specified for naval use?) had more common brass scales, but, as was pointed out, aluminum scales are not often, if ever else, seen. And you did very well on the price. Actually, the aluminum alloy grips are standard for the Argentine M91 bayonets and they were at one time, very common on the collector's market. They have dried up in the last few years and, as always, prices have risen. The brass gripped M91 bayonets are MUCH less common and have always sold for a premium. For the later Argentinian M1909 bayonets for the M1909 Rifle, they switched to the standard wood scales commonly used world-wide.

Anytime I searched it seemed at least 8 or 9 were being offered and frequently brass handled ones were being offered. I kept watching, got out bid on a couple then noticed the quantity falling off. Then this one came along. It only had one fuzzy photo and apparent lack of interest. You could see the crest was pretty heavily hacked. So I posted a low bid and got it. I do believe the lack of clear pics is what hurt this seller because other than the grinding, it's really in good shape. Diplomacy is the art of saying nice doggie until you can find a rock. They had opted for the 15.75 inch blade, after seeing that Chile was going to adopt a shorter (10-inch blade) bayonet for their Mausers. However, the prototypes turned out heavier than the Argentines liked, so they made a number of design changes (thinner blade, slimmer hilt, and others).
