The old poll I did has me falling off the upper end of the age scale and there's just something wrong about that. So, how old are you? Tell us something about yourselves if you wish. ie. where are you from.. generally, (don't be to precise), and what are your interest in general? I live somewhere in the beautiful Tarheel State of North Carolina, home of the largest mountains east of the Mississippi and the best fishing beaches on the east coast all inside a day's drive. My interest other than collecting & shooting original configuration military and other collectible guns is deer and wild turkey hunting, surf fishing the Cape Hatteras National Seashore and just being outdoors. I've been a fan of freshwater fishing, golf (playing), chess, NASCAR (less so since the loss of #3 . I've had a few muscle cars in my day, been married to my highschool sweetheart for 30 years and have two kids, a son going to college this fall and a daughter about to turn 16 $:\$ My dad is going strong approaching his 80th birthday but I lost my mom in 98 to cancer. He's remarried and doing well. He's also a WWII veteran of the Merchant Marine and a postwar draftee in the Army. I am a machinist by trade and have been for 28+ years. I don't seem to know how to do much else. I started this site as a spinoff of Mosin-Nagant.Net back in 1998 and have been operating this particular forum site since December of 2000. My main interest now is getting my kids through school then moving further out into the country when they get out on their own. But I do plan to resume active collecting some day down the line. How about you? Posts: 190 May 23 06 6:34 PM active member Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Well, I'm 37 as of yesterday and live in NW Oregon.I'm self employed which means I get to go camping and shooting pretty much whenever I feel like it. Couldn't imagine going back to a 40 hour (or longer) workweek. Lifes for living on my terms, not for breaking my back so someone else can live the life while I rush headlong into an early grave. Hope to retire in my early 40's. Lookin good for that so far but we'll see what happens. Maybe I'll just start something else, never know. My intrests are camping, shooting old rifles and reloading. Oh sure, theres other things but these are what intrest me the most. Used to fish alot, might start that up again. No kids here. Just the wife, two dogs and me. There is also a cat around, most likely asleep somewhere. It doesn't pay us a lot of mind but thats ok,lol.

Also have a pet squirrel, rabbit and two birds LOL. I was a automotive machinist/mechanic for years, untill I got hurt pretty bad (seven surguries so far), I had specialized in building engines for Drag cars, dirt track, circle track and race truck engines, also did machine the work for a lot of mechanic shops and dealerships and some walk in's. I used to race 4wd's in the boggs. But now I collect old guns of all types, C&R, unusual, or just cause I like it LOL. Have a massive antique collection of everything from dinosaur Fossils to 60's science equipment. Four glass display cases packed full of antiques, the walls, on top of dressers, where ever they will fit, and a good part of one of our 10X14 shed is packed full of antiques. We are trying to buy some property near lake Livingston, Texas, hopeing to move before school starts next year, get out more in the country and get out of the city. Love fishing-salt and fresh, camping, and hunting. I plan on trying to open a gun shop and start gathering up machine equipment for gunsmithing once I get to Livingston, the city I am in right now has an ordinance that will not allow a gun shop to open, the few that are here in town was grandfathered in when the ordinance passed. Guess that about sums it up........... LOL ------------------------------------ I will never go skeet shooting again, must have shot 3 dozen of them things flying out of their nesting boxes. Boiled them for hours and them things were still too tough to eat.

Married 40 years to my high school sweetheart...4 great grown sons, 10 wonderful Grandchildren and survived a tour of the Far East coutesy of Uncle Sam.Interests are:Hunting,fishing,shooting,driving my GTO,cleaning old rifles,perfecting my BBQ techniques,spending time with the Grandkids....and worrying about our heroes in Iraq. I live in the Piney Woods of East Texas.

This time of year I like to cook something on the grill at least twice a week. What year is your GTO? My favorite was always the 66 & 67's with the 67's being my true favorites. Memorial Day I'll be doing the brisket and pork shoulder smoking for a family get-together to remember those who gave all so we could do stuff like this. BTW Bill, i hear folks in your neck of the woods can smoke a pretty fair shoulder themselves!

My name is Jim, I'm C&R eligable at 50 yrs old and I live in sunny East Texas with my (only) wife of 17 years and our three sons, Moe, Larry and Curly (not really their names but the characters are right! ) Dad served in the CBI in WWII. He and Mom both passed on in the 1980s. I served in the army from 1974-81 and am now disabled, though, like Bill, a machinist by trade. Right now I'm mainly trying to survive the transition from workingman to disabled. It ain't easy brother! I enjoy shooting and have hunted and fished but haven't done either lately. I'm also a big time history buff and former CW reenactor. The handle "nothernug" is short for anotherNew UselessGuy which I was when I joined this site in 2002. I'm truly one of the new guys (as in more recently joined) on the block here. I'm 55, Born in AR., raised in ranch country in NW Nebraska near the SD. border, lived in Tucson 15 years where Coneten and I met in '82, Huntsville, AL 3 years, Houston 14 years, N. Kentucky 3 years so far. Started hunting and shooting at about age 5...been shooting and collecting since. Regional Manager for a merchandising company representing all appliance manufacturers in Lowe's. Responsible for portions, if not all, of 12 states. I travel quite a bit and try to set aside time for milsurping on every out of town trip. The C&R has paid for itself and don't know why I didn't get one sooner. BTW, Parallax is probably one of the few forums out there where one can get information WITHOUT getting into a pissing contest. :-)

I will be 57 at the end of June and I have had an interest in milsurps for 51 of those years, since I first fired my dad's Rock Island 1903 when I was six years old. Got into milsurps back in the early 60's when you could pick them out of a barrel at the local Sears store and enjoyed them up until that uneventful and distasteful time in 1968. Married in 1970 and raised three daughters who now have two kids each, so I now have six grandkids, including one that likes to shoot grandpa's rifles! Divorced and living single since 1982, so I don't have to put up with SWMBO or anybody else. I work for an electronics manufacturer and have been there for 31 years now and am in the position of technical support for our products. Other hobbies are collecting and restoring antique radios and ham radio, and I have been licensed for 41 years (N7AH). Born and raised right here in Sandpoint, Idaho, about 60 miles south of the Canadian border. I can remember when we used to go to the local gravel pits to shoot, but now every spot we used to throw lead at now has a megabuck house built there. Times are a changing, that is for sure. When I got back into serious milsurp collecting, I thought I was the only one around these parts until I found this web site and it didn't take me too long to settle in for the duration. By the way, I am a veteran of both the Navy and the Army, so I feel that I fit in with lots of folks here. Curt

Like to hunt, fish, flirt. I have 12 Bee Colinies got to start harvesting Honey next week. Joined NG in 59, did 3 yrs and got out before Nam. Answered a telephone repairman job add in 75 and it was Army Recruiter. Did 10 more yrs active. Just got interesting in old milsurps bout 6 mo ago. It all started with a #4mk1 bubba job, but its a nice rifle and shoots true. Now I have 7 in all. Have had my sks for 15 yrs. Already had 4 or 5 other Irons. Was raised about 60 mi east of Hot lanta. I-20 goes right through where I use to raise cotton,corn, etc,etc. Live about 40 mi out of Macon Ga. Fish in Lake Sinclair, and other waters. SKD

Still working but will retire March 1, 2007 and begin a new phase of life. A lot of my activities will be spent passing on knowledge and experiences to my grandchildren. Besides the well documented gun hobby I fish, hunt, play golf, read history, build guns, carve decoys. The last two hobbies I've neglected for many years and hope to resurrect them next year.

I was born in CA, raised in WI, NJ, and CT and have lived in WI for nearly thirty years now. It's a much more gun friendly location than the other three!! My dad is a WW II Navy veteran who served most of his time at the Alameda NAS as a mechanic on PBM Mariners of which there is only one still in existence. Both my parents are still alive and living independently, though just barely. I'm an army veteran and spent eleven months with the First Signal Brigade in South Vietnam in 1971. It really wasn't that bad. My basic training was at Fort Dix with advanced training at Fort Belvoir which had nothing to do with the signal corps! My Dad and brother are machinists and though I worked at it part time for a number of years it wasn't for me. It may have been due to the fact that about the only thing I ever machined on a lathe was stainless steel; types 304 and 316 are nasty stuff. Being an architect can be stressful but at least I can correct a drawing when I find mistakes. Machine something undersize and it's scrap!! I still have nightmares about it! And one doesn't have to worry about +/- .0005" in building construction. However, I DO have a deep appreciation for precision and fine machining work and understand what it takes to achieve it. Every time I look at my mint conditin 71/84 Mauser I'm amazed. CG

I'm 17 years old (but will be 18 on November 1 of this year...I plan to celebrate my coming of age with...you guessed it, another gun!) and have a flair for the esoteric, in terms of collecting. It all started with the Gewehr 88/05 my Dad got me when I was 14. I didn't shoot it for a while, and frankly wasn't too interested. And then my uncle showed me his gun collection. That's when it changed. I suddenly needed to have every gun on the face of the planet that even remotely appealed to me! I have been an obsessed golfer, reserve police officer and police PPC revolver competition for 15 years at the highest level statewide, only competing nationally once because of lack of ability to take on the very top in my class. (High master, the top category) I was always in the top ten statewide, and my best year I finished tied for third. And way too late in life, a milsurp nut, for which I blame the Parallax Forums. I am an accuracy freak and speed competition lover both with handguns, but with rifles, I just like to shoot as far as possible at difficult targets mostly. I love competitive shooting, and have tried about every handgun comp., mostly just for purposeful but fun shooting other than PPC where I was pretty serious and practiced a lot. My work life started at a large auto company, where I served an apprenticeship as a tool maker, later taking a company program in mechanical design and manufacturing engineering. I have built and designed just about every type of automobile manufacturing equipment. I later worked in food processing equipment and turbine powered equipment including air tools and even missle turbo alternators. Also worked designing equipment for manufacture of anti theft equipment for stores, and designed hydraulic equipment for workholding in CNC manufacturing for a temporary gig. I even worked on equipment for the new FN machine gun. I hold patents in things as varied as turbine speed governors, food equipment, and even a single string maneuverable kite. Many things just were not worth patenting, just industrial equipment of various types. Kids? Two boys in their 40s, and a 20 yr old daughter at FSU, and a 16 yr old son, the last two being from a second mist... err marriage. Wife is a Brit, Nurse/Midwife, and a wonderful lady, so my immediate extended family extends to England where we maintain close ties. We love to travel, and my wife has adopted our country, even to the point of baking an american flag cake each 4th of July. Kids hold dual citizenship, and daughter spent last summer working and visiting relatives in Britain. Now living in FL because of wife's employment, and kids education. FL is one of the best places to put kids thru college. That brought us back here after an 8 yr visit to NC where I was honored to PERSONALLY meet and shoot with, and count as friends, Parallax Bill and other Parallaxers, and share gun shows with them. They don't leave much for the rest of us. Had a bout of bad health but have recovered with the Parallax Forum being a friendly face when I needed one. I greatly admire Parallax Bill for the service he has provided to me personally with the Forum, and greatly appreciate all the friends I have made here. I love you guys. sniff sniff.

Posts: 1869 May 24 06 1:25 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I'm 64 years old.Been retired for four years now.Formerly I was a construction project manager for a number of years and later manager of facilities for The Allis Chalmers Corporate office after they moved to Atlanta.Last occupation was as a logistics company operations manager. I've always liked hunting,fishing and particularly shooting.I dabbled in milsurp rifles until I retired and then really got into it mainly due to Parallax Bill's site here and the very fine people with whom it has been my pleasure to associate with in regard to this hobby. I'm married to my best friend,Linda.Between us we have seven children and 12 grandchildren. My contribution to the hobby is the development of the LT 2 sight adjuster.I now have these in the hands of a great number of you as well as in Canada and six foreign countries. I'm privileged to live in South Carolina.The Carolinas are good milsurp country and home of many fine milsurpers. Stan The more I listen,the more I hear....and vice versa. The LT-2 sight adjuster.Have you adjusted today? There is honor in doing battle with a worthy adversary but counting coup on a cripple adds no feathers to my war bonnet. Enfields...anything else is just a rifle.

There, do you feel better, Bill? While aging isn't the greatest thing, it sure beats the alternative. Besides, my mind is still sharp, my health is good and all my body parts function correctly, thank God. I was born in Ohio, attended The Ohio State University where I got a Masters degree in physics. I went to work for IBM in Poughkeepsie, NY. All my life I had lusted after a Corvette, so that's the first thing I bought; turned out to be the worst car I've owned reliability wise. I spite of that, I got into sports cars in a big way. At one time I belonged to 4 sports car clubs. One thing led to another and I started racing sports cars. Actually, I raced a Formula Vee for those of you familiar with SCCA car classifications. Then IBM transferred me to Northern VA (as we all know, IBM stands for I Been Moved). There were no race tracks in the area at that time, so I sold my car and bought a boat. For the next 20 years boating and fishing were my passions. I owned three boats in that time, 2 28 footers and a 23 footer. For several years I was a member of The US Coast Guard Auxiliary. In 1978 I was transferred to South Florida where I now live. Although I had been shooting and hunting since I was 14, I lost interest while living in NY. When I got to FL, a friend at work rekindled my interest in guns, so I've been heavily involved in shooting and reloading since that time. I started collecting milsurps about 4 years ago and at last count had acquired a total of 31. I retired in 1992 and am now living a life of leisure here in sunny FL. Be thankful we're not getting all the government we're paying for .... Will Rogers

We rode the bus to Goodrich through the pines on dirt roads. It's paved now. We had Piney Wood Rooters (wild hogs in small groups), deer, snakes and ants hills. We went to the movies in Livingston and attended the Polk County fairs where we would shake hands with the Chief of the Indian tribes located there. Wow! Memories. This first para was for mossberg22 in response to his post. My age is 66 and will be 67 in July. Live just this side of no where in far west Texas. I had 40 years in public education and stuck in 6 years USArmy from 1966 to 1972. Was field artillery and trained Inft troop at Ft. Polk that were going to VietNam. Married since 1965, two grown children and 4 four grand kids. Interests are WWI and II history, photography, water color painting, and collectng and shooting the usual milsurps.
