Posts: 147 Apr 24 10 10:55 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Tags : None I just bought a Ruger 44 carbine off of a guy here and it has had the barrel shortened to 16 inches. Would anyone be so kind as to measure the height of the factory front site. I want to build a new front sight for it. I also have to fix some miss drilled holes in the stock and will probably have to refinish the stock as a result of it. This one has the fold down lyman style rear site. Thankyou to anyone who may help me with this.

Posts: 1141 Aug 17 10 1:35 PM Veteran member Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I'll probably be in the minority here, but I see the 44 magnum rifle as a short range, maybe 150 yards max., deer rifle. At 200 yards the energy has dropped off to the 600 to 700 ft lbs. Sighted in at 2.5" high at 100 yards still has you about 11 to 12" low at 200 yards. It's perfectly adequate for whitetails at short range, but it's not a long range rifle by any means.

No high power rifles. The range is sufficient to work for the distances we mostly shoot deer here. No many 300 yard shots present themselves. A deer in an open field during gun season is hauling the mail not standing about surveying the situation. Ash Iron Construction

Are parts still easily available for it? I'm thinking it will be my next deer rifle and my Mosin Nagant will get a rest. thanks, Bill
