The ranges for this shoot will be anywhere fom 200 meters to 500 meters with a full man steel target at 500 meters and shoulder/head steel target at 400 meters. Recently the City of Albuquerque also has metal targets now placed from 300 to 1,000 yards (not meters) at the range we shoot on for our matches so we will be using these as well.
Positions will be either prone, kneeling, sitting or off-hand (NO Bench Rests or shooting from tables) ... You decide.
This shoot will really show who is really a shooter or just a talker
Weather: Except HOT SUNNY weather so bring plenty of sunscreen, water, etc.
I will be getting a bunch of sandbags to us to use as well possibly with 2 strands of barbed wire in front of the shooting position to simulate a WWI battlefield.
Rob the club president will go over the range/club rules before any shooting takes place and I will give a little historical background relating to the theme of this shoot.
The weapons that we would like to see there will be of original WWI configuration and calibers but if you do not have one of these any other legitamate military surplus rifle may be used. I know not everyone has a weapon from the Great War.
Dressing in WWI period uniforms is highly encouraged as I will be in my WWI French uniform and there will be at least two other WWI reenactors from CA in period uniforms as well (British and Austro-Hungarian).
One competition that will take place is the British shooting drill the 'MAD MINUTE'.
We will have a revolver and semi-automatic pistol competition as well. We will have two man sized targets set at 25 meters and shoot 6 rounds at each for a total of 18 rounds using a revolver and a total of 14 rounds for semi-automatics, fastest speed and highest score wins in each category. This will simulate reloading under-fire as you are crossing No Mans Land.
Make you plans now to attend and shoot in this "Guns of August" match.
