This holster had been redyed black in front, but still had the original russet color in the rear. Posts: 1187 Oct 28 10 11:24 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Nice find. Older Model 1916 holsters were often dyed black in the later 1950's when the military went to all black leather goods. These were sometimes done in batches, or often by individual users. It's common to see them dyed only on the front side, due to the tendency for the dye to rub off on khaki uniform pants and leave stains that wouldn't come out.

Anyone that supports this insanity can keep "THE CHANGE".

Posts: 1187 Nov 2 10 8:08 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Whether to have the tie down on the holster was pretty much up to the user. I suspect most took it off or it eventually broke off. How the tie was wrapped varied according to the user. Many were done in what amounts to a very long hangman's knot. The leather was simply wrapped many more turns. I've seen others that were done in various braided methods. Some were simply wrapped around the bottom of the holster and the ends tucked under.
