Took my Argentine 1891 out this past weekend to try to take a big corsican ram on my lease in Central Texas (we have over 250 in a 1000 acre pasture and the rancher can't catch them!). Anyway, after some far hiking through the brush I came upon a group of three big'uns (all had 1 1/2 wide curls) and finally got a 150 meter shot. The one I was aiming acted like he got hit hard and they all trotted off. I found the blood trail, which at first had lung blood and a good quantity, but after about 150 yards it started letting up. Eventually I alternated between blood trailing and plain tracking until the trail was lost after 400 yards. Needless to say, I didn't find the ol' goat.
I think I might have just cliped his brisket, as I was using "Kentucky" elevation since the ol' girl shoots the Hornady 150 grains 7 inches too high and that was where I was aiming and it probably hit right on, but I don't know and it doesn't really matter.
I just hate to see game left in the woods to go to waste or run around wounded!
