My new rifle, a modified type 38 |

|
Good morning all, I picked up this rifle from my friends dad. Apparently it has been in his closet for 40 years, since he got it from a friend. It is most definitely NOT original. It was a type 38. The stock has been replaced with a sport stock, and whoever did the swap seems to have took the time to fit it right...there are no gaps, all the angles conform to the shape nicely. It also seems shorter than the Type 38's I have bee looking at over the last week, so I am assuming when it was modified that it was shortened also. There is no mum, and a hole has been drilled and tapped into the receiver (assuming a scope mounted on it at some point). The serial is 938,019, and it was manufactured at the Koishikawa Arsenal. There is no series number, I am assuming this was before they started doing that. The barrel is "S" proof. There is also a symbol that I have not been able to locate in the reference material links at the top of the forum. The symbol is a circle with a triangle in the middle of it, with tip pointed towards the barrel end and all the points of the triangle touch the circle. It is located near the "S" proof mark. Do any of you fine folks know of this symbol and it's meaning? The sights have been replaced by a Redfield rear sight sight, and not sure what the front sight is, but it is missing the blade piece. I will know more about that once I visit the gun shop on my luch break today. I gave the rifle it's first good cleaning last night, looks a lot better with a clean bore
