My wife is a Filipina and so we have TFC (The Filipino Channel) on our Sattelite Channels. I was watching a Filipino program on upcoming movies and they were inteviewing director John Sayles about his new movie filmed in the Philippines called "Amigo". This movie is about the Spanish-American War or as Filipinos call it in the Philippines, the Filipino-American War. It looked like an intersting movie and so I found the trailer on Youtube.com.
My Great Uncle Joeseph Miner was a First Segeant in the Artillery in the Philippines during this war and later became a Master Electrician (Master Sergeant) as the Coastal Artillery began to take shape there on Corregidor in the years leading up to W.W. I. I have scant information on my Uncle and a few stories form my Great grandmother when I was a kid so this movie is of great interest to me and I plan on seeing it.
When I was 14 years old I bought a cut down 1898 US Krag but sold it off to buy an M1 carbine because the Krag wasn't in military configuration as I found out later. I kinda wish I had even that one back as I can't really afford a Krag now and wished I had one. After 30 years I still have the box of 30-40 I bought with the rifle... but no rifle to use them in.
Anyway, the movie comes out in August.
