This one looks like it might be recoverable.. I have a decent full length Argy Mauser stock and most of the stock metal. I have one that is similar and they cut the barrel about 4 inches, moving the front sight back to the first barrel step. It wouldn't fit in a full length stock, but it fit nicely in a VZ-24 stock albeit with a little longer barrel than normal. Matt

Posts: 2449 Jan 5 12 4:18 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Another thing you got to watch for is that a lot of 09's were rechambered for 30.06 If you end up replacing that stock I would like to take it off your hands for you. Posts: 92 Jan 6 12 11:28 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Here's a pic of mine, it's the one on the right: The stock looks really nice for a chopped job with some nice tiger striping. Since it's already non-original, I'm probably going to just get a VZ-24 stock set for it and put it on my Spanish M44 sporter that's ugly as sin. I've got a full length replacement 7.65x53 barrel that's in decent condition, but it shoots 30-06 pretty well as is, even with the larger bore. I dropped the action in the vz-24 stock on the left and it fits perfectly. edit: and yes, I'd like to shoot whoever would butcher a stock with that wood. The barrel was cut about 4". Also has been rechambered to 30.06. Sooo...looks like this will not be recovered. The action is in very nice shape and the bolt turn down looks well done. It really kills me what they did to this rifle because it must have been in great shape before. The action is bright and in great shape. The barrel has been cut and rechambered to 30.06, with the bolt turned down. It can still be brought back to "military condition", but it is going to be trickier than I'd hoped (and more expensive). Posts: 2449 Jan 25 12 10:51 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	7.65-06, re-chambered to 30-06 but the bore is still 7.65 you can hand load using .310-.311 bullets to get the most out of it. I am pretty sure that I have seen original 09 long rifle barrels advertised somewhere fairly recently. If you leave the barrel as it is the collector value is going to be pretty well shot no matter what you do to the outside of it. I wonder if your rifle isn't one of those? Also, Argentina had a shorter barrel rifle in their inventory and this might have been one of those. I bought one in Idaho years ago from a pawn shop, only it was sitting in a Vz-24 stock. I never found a correct stock and eventually sold the rifle. I remember reading about it in the book of Argentine rifles. Kevin in Or.

Posts: 2449 Jan 26 12 11:39 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	1909's came in 2 barrel lengths 29" for the long rifle and 21.25"-21.5" for the 2 carbine versions. Anything in between has been messed with. If the rear sight is calibrated out to 2000 meters it's a long rifle and if it's 1400 meters it was a carbine. From the pictures it looks like it has the longer rifle rear sight. The carbines were actually more of a short rifle. Posts: 643 Feb 10 12 1:16 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Got to the range today and shot some of my recent acquisitions, including the 31.06 Argy. I was shooting factory Federal 150 and 180 Power Shok's. Rifle seemed to like both of them. But it was printing them high. I shot these 4 shot groups at 50 yards (they look like about 3 MOA). The hits were very high..I had to take a 6 o'clock hold on the small bottom target and hit the upper target. At 100 yards the rounds were going right over the target backer.. 150 grain Federal PS's @ 50 yards: 180 grain PS's @ 50 yards Better than I expected, shooting .308 bullets thru a 7.65 barrel. I've always had trouble with the Mauser inverted triangular sights, so not sure how much of the group dispersion I can blame on the sights.
