I had been loading new brass with starting loads from the manual and had no signs of a problem. This is the first full load I have fired in it after the new barrel was fitted. Most of you are familiar with the trouble I have had with the "Beast". This will be the last time I go against my "GUT" feeling about buying a firearm. fastshooter

Posts: 1188 Jan 31 12 10:24 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Price is totally a function of who's doing the work. In some parts of the country gunsmiths charge a lot more or a little less. Then too, it depends if the man doing it is a local with little real training or a good professional. Since some P14 and M1917 rifles have barrels that are really TIGHT, there may be some risk of a damaged or even cracked receiver. It's not unusual for people re-barreling one of these to use a lathe to cut the barrel shoulder to take off the torque so the barrel can be more easily removed. Since you want to use the original barrel, use caution on who you allow to do this. Once you get it back, inspect the receiver very closely for cracks.

But it might be foolish not to take it back and complain about the work done and see if you can get it repaired or get your money back. I know I wouldn't stand still for someone screwing up "anything" they have done for me. And I would expect them to make it right, physically or monetarily.

Posts: 260 Feb 28 12 9:01 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I have fired numerous fire formed cases with hand loads with this rifle and am still doing so with no ill effects except the primer out just a bit. I measured a spent primer and got this , 0.129. the primer is coming out, 0.008. It happens with only about 50% of the cases.The new case that separated was a clean break, not ragged. It was also farther up the case toward the neck than where the ring normally occurs.I believe this was another one of the new case failures. I have had 308 new case splits at the neck, with managed recoil, same brand. fastshooter
