Posts: 2 Mar 15 12 11:29 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Tags : None I have these boxes of LC 72 marked black tip in boxes. I was told there not usgi ammo and are pulled and remaned by a private company. Anyone seen these boxes before and have any history on them? I appreciate your time.

Posts: 2549 Mar 17 12 9:29 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	The box looks like ammo that Lew Horton's sold made from "reclaimed" USGI components. I have about 500rds of the M2 ball in similar boxes. I'm not at home this weekend so I am unable to check the boxes for maker, but if I remember right it was remanufactured for Lew Horton by TALON Mfg. out of Virginia. It is supposed to be loaded to milspec with boxer primers and GI components. If yours is what I have, it is good ammo. edit: I checked the boxes when I got home. They are identical to yours except they say 150 grain bullet (it is M2 ball). No mention of maker is on the boxes, tho. Last Edited By: BobM14 Mar 19 12 7:01 PM. Edited 2 times.

Posts: 2549 Mar 20 12 10:48 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Since they are "black tip" bullets made from USGI components, they are going to be (as you originally noted) armor piercing rounds. Some regular ball ammo is magnetic because of some ferrous material in the jackets, not from a steel core. But that is not the case with the ammo you picture. I'm certain it is AP. Like I mentioned, the ammo is milspec, non-corrosive, good ammunition. Just be aware that your range/state may or may not permit AP rounds for whatever nonsenseable reason. Posts: 218 Apr 20 12 9:26 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	If I'm not in my usual error mode....a lot of milsurp ammo was sold to Talon Mfg who pulled bullet, reloaded powder and reseated bullet. I purchased quite a bit of .50 cal that way. Cheap. I hear they violated their Gvt contract and are now out of business. I can see grip marks on a lot of my .50 cals. My 30/06 I have was bought through CMP when they had a bunch of AP ammo. The gun at my side means that I cannot be forced, only persuaded. I don't carry it because I'm afraid, but because it enables me to be unafraid. USMC 1959-1963

Posts: 8 May 5 12 10:27 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I bought a couple thousand rds of this stuff several years ago form a local dealer . It shoots ok , shot some of it in my Garand today , av. 4.25" for trhee 5 shot groups . Seemed to shoot vertical strings about 2.5" wide , I think maybe it might be suffering from bullet and case welding . I pulled some of it while back and had to seat it slightly to get it to pull , which resulted in a popping sound when it seated then removed easily , This could be causing the stringing I suppose as it would surely cause varying pressures . After reloading with some H4350 and IMR 4064 I came to the conclusion there was little to gain with this type of projectile . But it was worth the try , but hey it's great for what it's intended for , Kenneth
