Posts: 1 Apr 8 12 6:49 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Tags : None I purchesed my first k98 mauser .When I first saw this rifle,it looked rvery good with few flaws for a 60 y.o..When I picked it up after a mandatory 2 week waiting period,there was a deep crack around the top of the but going to the trigger guard..I went to see the dealer and was told it wasthe lamination.and that was it.I believe the stock is flawed and should not be fired.Any suggestions would be appreciated

Cabinetman can tell you how to fix just about any stock so that its stronger and the repair is nearly invisible. If no, did you buy it via the internet and neither the pictures or the written description disclosed the issue? Either way, if paid top dollar for the rifle and the crack was not disclosed or took the crack "happend" after you handled it but before you received it after the mandatory 2-week waiting period (ouch that must be a CT requirement we don't have here in MO), you should at least get a partial refund. Please post some pics of the crack. If in fact the crack is on top of the stock and runs all the way to the action, you can not shoot it, and thus is worthless to you as a shooter. If the dealer won't make it "good" for you, then your only options are to replace the stock and possibly fix the stock if it is not beyond repair. Last Edited By: h2oys Apr 10 12 10:34 AM. Sorry to hear your introduction to milsurp (military surplus) or at least Mauser rifles was less than positive. I too would be curious to know if you were able to physically observe the rifle before purchase. It reads like you did. That would mean the stock was damaged between purchase and pick up and the dealer would definitely be responsible. Of course if he refuses to make it right, you have few options short of maybe civil suit. The good news is that most stock damage, just short of lamination separation can be easily repaired and I don't know that such separation couldn't be too. Do not assume that that is the problem either, just because a dead beat dealer said so. The good news is that we have a professional wood worker on this forum who can tell you how to fix just about anything that can go wrong with a stock or if, worst case, you have to replace it. Replacing it may not be so bad as you think either. Post some pics in the C&R repairs section and or a MOD can move the whole post. Cabinetman can tell you how to fix just about any stock... I'm just the fellow that can move it for you and I will. Pics are a must for him to help you. You can post them direct from your computer or from a host site. To upload from your computer, look near the top of the page and you will see "welcome- account/images/..." Just click on images and you can probably follow the leads there. If not just ask. There are photo host sites that provide free use for uploading, and storage that provide ready made codes for posting your pics into a forum or elsewhere. Perhaps the most common is "Photobucket." http://photobucket.com/ I use this and it's easy. There are other such sites but I'm just not familiar with them. What I'm going to do now is "copy" this post to the stock repair forum. I'll provide a link to your topic there. That means for the time being your topic will exist on both forums. When you have found it there, I'll lock this one here so folks can follow it but there won't be any more posting on it and you can concentrate on the one forum.
