I figured it would go nice on my type II M1924 Yugoslav carbine since it's shellac finish was still in pretty nice shape. I posted more pics of the bayo on the bayonet forum. Check it out! M1924 type II (straight bolt) carbine. By Yugoslav standards having the side sling arrangement is what makes this a carbine, length or size doesn't enter into it. It is identical in all other respects to the "rifles." I have since found it a cleaning rod. This one is one of those rifles finished in shellac. There is clear evidence that this is the original finish on this weapon. Look at the stock stamps. You can see the serial and in the long vertical image of the bottom of the butt stock the inspection stamps were clearly stamped after the stock was finished. If the shellac had been put on later, it would have at least partially filled those stamps. But they are sharp and clean. This carbine was manufactured in 1929 and by its numbers is historically significant and proves just how rare the earlier CXC marked rifles are. Full production did not begin until October 1928 under the governance of the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats & Slovenes. King Alexander declared his dictatorship on January 6, 1929 and declared his rule as the Kingdom of Yugoslavia. Only 1860 rifles were produced in 1928. But re this carbine, serial # 14948, Kragujevac had already begun using the new marking for that. That means sometime before this number marks the maximum numbers of rifles produced with the CXC side marking. Speaking of those inspection stamps, we have a record of the crown over-B. V Vlajich Danjan. He inspected models M1899 and M1924 rifles. (The "B' is of course the Cyrillic for our Latin script "V.") Source is Branko's book. The top montage image is from the seller. Note the side rail marking is Bojho Tex... That stamp did not come into use until 1932. My only guess for that is that perhaps this or some carbines were produced as a separate order. I have to justify my purchases. I also look and drool a lot. It has forced you to get rather rare or very interesting pieces. When I started collecting I bought everything under the sun just because it was cheap (for me at the time anyway). What I ended up with was 36 rifles and very few that were anything more than run of the mill pieces. Now with the economy clamping down on my spending habits, and having sold off the mundane items, I find myself just drooling a lot over pieces while holding out for something truly interesting. Right now it's all about hunting down the correct bits for my 1906 BSA/Sparkbrook No 1 Mk I*** SMLE. Man those parts don't come cheap :S
