I see no pinned spring retainer or threaded hole in the trigger guard plate or bow for one...Was it a friction fit into the wood? Or...Did it thread directly into the wood? If so...Was the thread form like a wood screw or like a regular machine screw? If like a machine screw ...What is the approximate thread pitch? Or did it thread into some kind of metallic receptacle embedded into the wood at the end of the ramrod channel? If so what is the approximate thread pitch of the ramrod?

Posts: 1114 Jun 29 12 9:19 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	The rod wasn't held in the stock by screwing it into anything, it had to be immediately withdrawn when needed. The threads on an original ramrod on all muzzleloading US military arms (as well as those of other nations) were for tools - the "worm" (wiper) and the ball puller. The ramrod was held in place by a little bit of friction and that is all. The rod tapered and it did bind with the wood enough to keep it in place, even during the recoil of firing and when the muzzle was tilted down. I think that the ramrod spring first showed up on the M1840 flintlock musket and the M1842 percussion musket but it may have been the later M1855.

Yes it makes total sense that the ramrod would not be screwed in but be held in by friction so it would be available for quick removal for immediate use...You mentioned the threads found on a ramrod would be for "tools"... I know that at the time my musket was made complete interchangeability of parts had not yet been achieved...If the 1816 did indeed have a threaded RR... Do you happen to know what thread size the originals approximate?
