So I got some rock/prospector hammers for my two grand daughters who are interested in rock and fossil hunting. Swap meet specials and both in need of a little re-sharpening of the pick-ends.
I was wondering if there might be a home-brew method for re-hardening of the tool steel after re-working, using materials and equipment "at hand". Since I have no forge or case-hardening compound or more than the tiniest knowledge of metallurgy.
I was thinking of heating the re-worked pick-ends in a charcoal fire or some caveman-type method.
Thanks and you can stop laughing now...I'm serious.
