Just an update on my VV70/87 charger Project.
CAD designs from Italy deciphered and computerised
Steel wire-eroded front and rear keepers ready.
Wooden top piece cut and planed to correct cross-section;
Tin Three clip Box in Tinplate designed. Cotton closure tape for TB found in local Haberdashery distributor;
To do: Press folding tools for front and rear channels.
Drill Jig for Pin Holes in steel; ( before Folding)
Profiling wood blanks ( will take some Fancy routing and cutting Jigs, due to the angles and profiles.). Timber is Baltic Pine ( recycled Machinery Packing cases from Germany...lovely planks of 1" rough cut -- actual measurement).
Assembly with un-obtainium escutcheon pins. ( blued steel, 10mm long, 3mm dome head, 1,4mm shank-- PS, these are not "common Nails", although the Dutch Beaumont-Vitali clip did use flat head nails ( Dutch clip future Project)
Pull-string Hemp cord also found at Haberdashery store (Craft section).
Trial with Dummy cartridges made using Prvi/Grafs 8x51R Lebel cases ( same rim and head diameter, and body expanded to 10,4mm cal, and trimmed to 47mm. Bullet made from solid aluminium bar, to fit whole length of case.
I should have some Prototypes ( made, hand cut, with recycled Soya Bean Oil cans --4 gallon) by July, to get the bugs out of the processes...don't want to lose the 30 sets of cut-out blanks on trials yet...Wire eroding is expensive!!! Probably will try Laser cutting for major Production run.
They will be available individually, or as a 3-clip set with canister and tape. Price will not be cheap, but the finished product should be indistinguishable at first sight from an original...except maybe "Newer" looking..
Try us at Xmas time....
BTW, Carcano M91 Clip tooling is finished, and strip metal roll in store...Production starts in July 2017.
