I bought some of it, but I don't see much load data for it in the milsurps. Anyone have any input? Any loads for it in the 6.5 Jap? Thanks for any help. Good shooting!!!! Tmygun

Use the loading ratio for whatever you know [I presume that's .308 or 30-06, the kind of data you can find for this new stuff... Also Presuming you're going to use about 180gr .311/.312 FMJBT...] Ratio the known case volume to the case volume you're going to use and calculate an equivalent nominal load for your case. Then reduce it by ~30% [loading the rest of case volume with filler; the .308 or .30-06 are higher pressure, too.] and try a few; work up toward the nominal full load and examine cases for signs of overpressure. Chrono the resulting rounds until you get into the mid-2000/2400fps. That's enough ... gluck, peterNaCl

I knew this powder would require some experimentation with certain calibers, but it was just too cheap to pass up . At least there is load data for this powder for the 30-06, 308, 303 British, etc. As was mentioned on the reloading forum, it will require more caution in developing loads in the smaller cases. Oh well, I knew that one powder doesn't fit all. Thanks again. Good shooting!!!! Tmygun

Posts: 828 Oct 18 04 8:08 PM Host Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	7.7 Arisaka is ballistically between .303British and .7.62Nato[Arisaka a bit higher pressure/more energy than .303Br], so you'd probably want to start with .303Brit as your close/comparable data. I had a buddy mention that for deer hunting he loads 7.7mm Arisaka w/150 grain 0.311" spitzer @ 2500 fps with H414, H335, or H4895. [he thinks 39gr to 45gr is the range of those powders. He also says the 0.311" or 0.312" Hornady 125-gr. spitzer over 36/38/40 grs. IMR 3031 is accurate/effective at longer ranges, and ballistically very impressive in his mint, chrome bore early T99.] Here's a post from the T38/T99 Accuracy thread w/loading: likskilet (10/17/04 2:49 pm) Re: Jap accuracy I haven't shot much with the 6.5 but I have some with my 7.7. I think my best was with Hornady .312 150 grn spire points. I used IMR 4895, about 44grns or so. I got Norma cases and Winchester primers. The best I could do was about 1.5 inch when I did my part. The long pull and stiff let-off on my rifle was tough though. I'll bet 2-4 inches @ 100 is norm. I wish I could find some more Hornady .312s , I think my 7.7 likes them. gluck, peterNaCl
