Re: danish madsen | ||

Duke--I just picked up my (2) new madsens--they are locked up in the safe now and I haven't had time to look at the serial numbers given the other new family members that came to my home over the weekend--When I get a chance, I'll post them along with details of the guns. One has a nonmatching bayo. neither has a stock disk. one is in the 1000 serial number range and the other in the 3000 range both are mint and likely unfired... Guess that means I'll have to get another to shoot!! Awsome guns!! Mauserdoc

Re: danish madsen | ||

OK--I got one of them out. the number is 3350. No bayo on it. Both of my guns appear unfired. Philosophical question--should I shoot them? I will get the bayo number and number off the other rifle soon. Mauserdoc

Re: danish madsen | ||

You might save one and shoot one....that way you can have it both ways....
Mauserdoc.....just curious, where did you get the 3350 numbered gun....I already had it from a fella on Gunboards. Thanks,
Ol'Duke |

Madsen rifle | ||

First Madsen I got for $90 out of a sporting goods store in Waipahu, HI. The fishing supply guy took guns as trade-ins for deep sea fishing reels - the heavy Penns. Should give you an idea of how long ago this happened where $90 was enough for him to make money on the deal. Unfortunately I sold the rifle to buy school books. Don't remember the serial number but it had no crest on the stock.
Second Madsen was $275. Serial number 3054-58. No crest on stock. As you can tell from the price this was more than a few years ago. Wouldn't sell now for twice the price. I've never seen a Madsen in bad condition. I once saw a rifle that had been "sporterized" by cutting off the stock ahead of the rear sight - no handguard or band. Sure looked odd with the bayonet lug still on the barrel. Bayonet picked up for $25 at an antique store in Maui. I wasn't sure it was a Madsen bayonet and the blade was (and still is) stained - not pitted but discolored. Scabbard looked like some of the early AK bayonets but the blade was different. No serial number. Whoops! Sorry, checked bayonet and found serial number - had to polish to get number to show - 5252. Comment on the design influences of the Madsen rifle. The heaviest influence is obviously the Italian Carcano - except for the rear lugs the bolt it a very close clone of a Carcano especially the Type "I" Carcanos made for Japan. The rear lugs are Danish Schultz & Larsen and Lee Enfield influence. By the way, I got a Schultz & Larsen hunting rifle from the same shop and guy. I didn't pay much for it and am horrified at how much it's worth now. I think he took the rifle in for two Penns and charged me accordingly but he threw in a box of ammo and a scope. |

My buddy bought one today, had no clue what it was, just knew the store owner had no idea what it was either. So he had to have it.

Re: Madsen rifle | ||

I think it was $200, I will have to double check. He bought 6 rifles that day, so the prices were going back & forth a lot.

Re: Madsen rifle | ||

If he got it for $200, he got a racehorse deal for an exceptionally fine built rifle.....
