(i got it from graf, but special thanks to stantheman, whose tip on militaryammunition.com [aka LC] just got me 100 rounds of prvi for $35). got another question now: do the 1891 argentine and 1909 peruvian take the same bullet size, or might there have been some change, as there was with the 8x57JS? i've seen a few comments by now saying that ammo worked well in post-1900 guns, but not in 1891s. thanks and thanks. glenn

Posts: 6318 Oct 7 05 5:16 PM Forum Site Moderator Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Same ammo for both the '91 & '09... as far as bullet size goes, which is .311"~.312" diameter. The '91 action is weaker, and has poorer gas-venting than the '09, so I'd avoid the "SF" headstamped military surplus ammo in the '91. It has a history of various safety issues, and the '91 action isn't going to protect your face if you get a case-head rupture. Always wear eye-protection, regardless! If you plan on using newly produced commercial ammo such as Norma, Hornady, or Privi, then in my opinion, they're OK in either the '91 or '09 action. Handloading however, is the lowest cost and best alternative if you already have own a press. -------------------------------------------------------- What part of "shall not be infringed" don't you understand?

Posts: 207 Oct 7 05 6:28 PM active member Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Some references state the bullet dia. as .313" and Speer for a while offered this diameter to reloaders for the 7.65 Argentine. I bought a box of these a while back but to date have only loaded the .312" for my Argies. Colin Webster's book says the bullet diameter for the round nose is 7.9 mm which equals .311". For the upgraded pointed bullet the dia. is 7.94 mm (.3125"). Best to slug your bore to find the best fit.

Posts: 1680 Oct 8 05 9:09 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I agree that for the most part 7.65mm ammo is interchangable but as per Colin Webster's book, the bullets were NOT the same diameter. Indeed the M1891 spitzer(pointed) "P" ammo was not the same load as the M1909 "S". He lists the M1891 round nose bullet as 7.90mm Both the 1891 and 1909 pointed bullets are 7.94mm The powder was different in the two spitzer loads and the M1891 spitzer MV was higher at 845 m/sec compared to 830 m/sec for the M1909 spitzer load. see p. 182 Jack A Mauser for me, a Mauser for you. All I want is a 1892(rifle), Spanish that is...:-)

Posts: 280 Oct 8 05 11:48 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I reload for the M91. My last 20 rounds that I reloaded were the following formula 42 Gr. IMR 4064 150 Gr. Sierra softpoint/flat base, .311 diameter Graf Brass (nice stuff) Winchester large rifle primer. I cloverleafed three shots at 100 yards with round made from that formula. George

On the box, these bullets are designated ".303 Caliber", with a note that they are for .303-British, and 7.7mm-Jap. -------------------------------------------------------- What part of "shall not be infringed" don't you understand?
